    Hey everyone,

    The EA app does now allow download speed to be limited, just in case that update was missed.

    You can find and change this option under Settings > Download > Limit download rate.

    Thank you for the patience with this and for all the feedback!

  • Hey I figured out a work around for making a custom limiter

    in file explorer go to %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop

    right click on the file that starts with "user_" and it will have a long number after

    there is an option "user.throttle.bandwidthkbps="  just set it to whatever you want, just make sure you convert your Mbps to Kbps

    save and restart ea launcher and your custom bandwidth limit is set!

  • Would it be possible to offere a wider variety of download limiting rates? In my case I am only allowed 1MB or 5MB when I would like to allow 2MB as the best balance for my broadband

  • EA App is using all my bandwidth.  If I set the download speed to unlimited, I only get 1.5Mb~ download speed for content, but my bandwidth is pegged around 15Mb, which is my entire connection.  What is the EA App doing with all the extra bandwidth?  I have no idea, I know it's not making the content download any faster.  Setting to 5Mbps consumes 15Mb/s as well, with a max content download of 1.5Mb/s.  Setting to 1Mb/s download nets about 800kb/s and uses about 3-5Mb/s.

    There is something seriously wrong with how the downloads work.  Windows 11 Pro btw.

    I found on another rant a user who recommended putting this:

    [connection]
    EnvironmentName=production

    [Feature]
    CdnOverride=akamai

    C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\EA Desktop\legacyPM

    In the EACore.ini file and it eliminated the rate limiting for me.

    set in the application ea Limit the download speed to 1 MB/s and then click on the three dashes at the top left and select Exit
    (hereby will turn off the EA app completely)

    open: C:\Users\._.your windows account name._.\AppData\Local\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop
    open the file "user_(some numbers).ini" in notepad

    find the "user.throttle.bandwidthkbps="and if there is no such thing, copy it to the end, and add the value, but make sure that it is a multiple of the number: 1024
    1MB/s = 1024
  • Thank you! This method works like a charm. 😎

    @vavxky2tzjay Thank you for this. I was having to download at an abysmal 1MB/s (about a quarter of my connection), I set it to 2250kbps (which is about 2MB/s and my go-to for any download rate). It seems to have worked so far. I did have to quit the app first, then set the rate at that file and then start it again though 🙂
