Re: EA App doubles game size everytime it updates a game

When updating a game @3DiE9djua2 it often is that you will need double the game install size free on your hard drive in order for it to complete.

  • @EA_Darko no, games does not often need dopuble disk spcae to update. This is a pure EA thing. This does not happen on Battle.net launcher or Steam. I'm literally watching Overwatch 2 being updated as I type this and the game folder did not double in size. For the lols I also updated Warzone. Did not double in size. I updated Darktide last week and also this game didnt double in size during patching. Things like this is easy for me to check since I dont use auto update. So I always have control when I update games and update them when I need to. Updates on EA App is the only time I see this behavior.

If you think this is so common then please refer to games that is not on EA app that needs double disk space to update. It should be easy for you to list plenty of games considering you claim this is common practise.

I'd really like to verify myself that this is common practise. So far I have not seen this behaviour in any other game or launcher.

  • Hi, no they don't need to double in size. It actually wrecks people's pc set ups and makes our storage budgeting useless. This is the only installer that does this. Caveman stuff like this is why I'm not building another gaming computer. Your just lazy because it's not an xbone or an overpriced PS5 so your company can bleed people for inflated game prices. And you wonder why people pirate games, seriously you wonder. Star Wars survivor on the EA launcher is a nightmare and this is just more bullcrap when I have 10 or 15 minutes to play. So, guess what? I don't have all day to wait for your lazy programming to clone an entire drives worth of files that are already present in said system. I will pass and play something that boots up without the old fashioned 1990's update methodology. EA and Ubisoft clients are a joke at this point and most of the games, thanks from the bottom of my wallet for wasting more of my time just like horrid battlefield 20whatever it is now.

  • Hi

I am having this same problem original game file size of Jedi Survivor is about 130gb

the new update file is 130gb

I am having to move so many files around to cope with this.

I should have bought it on steam this EA app is useless

  • I am having the same issue, can't redo the full download every time. And NO, this behavior is not present anywhere else but only in the EA app.

I have used Steam, Epic, and other game launchers, including Origin for years and I do not recall ever experiencing this. Sounds like I am not the only one to have a short amount of time to play Star Wars Survivor, sit down to play, just to be disappointed the “Update” of around 126.94GB in size is going to eat up most my play time if not all. And then the same for other games in the list. :-(

This is my first time paying for the EA Play Pro subscription. I will not be continuing the subscription or buying any more games using EA launcher if this does not get fixed very soon.

what is EA going to do about this? I will most likely be reaching out to support for a refund on the subscription also. Bummer
