Say what you want, despite all the new fancy features (like limit playtime for children, as if gamers generally had children lmao) I find EA Desktop still much inferior to Origin. Game time not carried over (however this will soon change), no achievements and in general worse dashboard look with no option to resize game tiles (also tiles are square unlike rectangonal in Origin).
Funny how EA favors consoles over PC, yet their games are always going to have achievements because this is one of the most fun features in console gaming. Why not on PC then? Sorry, EA, this is pathetic laziness.
I'm no hardcore achievement hunter myself but I like getting most of the games I buy and not just pass after finishing the main campaign. Achievements are always a reward and a reason to spend some additional time on games or play them in a different way or even replay sometimes. EA games are always going to have them because consoles are as well. Origin Points system is that one thing EA made better than Valve. But on consoles this system is kind of outsourced to XBL/PSN, while on PC it has to be maintained domestically. I bet that it just doesn't calculate in excel so EA finds this dispensable but I'm glad there are other gamers who think the way I do and it's not true that nodoby cares about EA platform on PC.
When I think about a modern PC gaming platform i have such core things in mind:
- cloud save (luckily no issues here)
- community system, chat, invite friend to game and so on (basic but ok)
- achievements (Origin: limited support - only newer games; EA Desktop: none)
- game stats, at least time spent, last played and some game menu (Origin: limited but ok; EA Desktop: soon to be improved)
- digital store (both lack cart system)
I like to imagine that at least the aforementioned will be added, and only then will I consider switching to the new app. And not only this. It's a good opportunity to mention my crusade to create public API for player and game stats and profiles I carry in this thread: https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion/Stats-API/td-p/7419174/page/19
That would allow to create community built and run applications, deliver data to the news sites and make EA's platform much more relevant and enthusiast-gamer-friendly.
As you all said above, no word about achievements on the roadmap: https://trello.com/b/tSV7CSSH/ea-desktop-roadmap
No update on it in early 2022.
Edit early March 2022: achievements appeared on the roadmap! https://trello.com/c/g2PVbmvS/331-achievements
