Re: How do I prevent the EA app from starting with windows

@TippyBuckle8254 Go to settings then startup and you can toggle apps on or off for startup.

    @Rusty RatIts off, starts anyway...

    To specify: In windows startup apps it is toggled OFF. When I start windows, EA starts too... I shouldn't need to log on to the app to prevent auto startup. Bad programming.

    Hey @annersch,

    It doesn't work like that, unfortunately.

    The Windows Setting that got shared earlier is different from the per-app setting that is sometimes built into the app. In the EA app, this sensing can be turned off or on by going to Settings > Application > and check "Open the EA app automatically on startup".

    This is a new feature that got introduced recently.

    @KoaFidCZ Yes my previous reply was last year before the move onto the new app. Also probably a bit different for Windows 11 users (I have resisted the change so far).

  • No this is not a new feature. Its plain old abusive practice that has been around for more than 10 years stop trowhing sand to peoples eyes

  • The EA app keeps opening on startup I turned it off in the app also turned off the background service in the app also tried adding it to the windows start manager nothings work, nothings it has been going on for months it started with the Xbox app opening on boot and In the task manager I could see the ea app opening with the Xbox app after some time it was just the ea app opening on boot I still maybe think that this is affected by the Xbox app so I tried unlinking the that also didn’t work what can I do? Plz fix this EA.

  • I agree this is bad design, and not something we had to deal with under Origin.  The move to the EA app has been less than smooth.  This app is horribly intrusive.

    - You can't actually disable it as a background service.  If you disable the service nothing works anymore.  This is nonsense.  We should be able to actually quit EA completely and not be required to have it running in the background all the time.

    - To actually disable the auto start, you have to edit the registry (see attached).  This is nonsense.  There should be an easy to access option for this, not something buried in setting in the app post login that doesn't work and has other contradictory settings.

    @ebonweaver, this is sadly incorrect. Please do not make any manual changes to your system's registry to change the EA app auto-start behaviour. The Windows auto-start behaviour of the EA app can be regulated by following these steps.

  • Already have those disabled and EA App opened upon startup again today.

  • Might of found the culprit. I open the Xbox App on startup and EA App is an enabled extension.

    Maybe disabling this will help, but could mess something else up.

    Xbox App -> Settings -> Extensions

    That's the whole point, It should work like that but for some reason you have decided not to make it work like that. It''s awful.
