In Game Overlay not working even when enabled

I've literally try everything from restarting PC, App Recovery, turning off steam and discord overlays, deleting app, looking into different forums, nothing works to get this in game overlay working to invite my friends to play plants vs zombies garden warfare 2. Why can't there be a different way to invite friends other than the in game overlay and if there is a solution can someone help me?
