Re: Cannot launch mass effect legendary edition from steam using EA app.

Yeah, this error just started for me a couple of hours ago after I began playing MELE on my new computer yesterday without a problem. Error message reads as:

   link2ea://launchgame/1328670?platform=steam&theme=met

   Application not found

And my EA launcher shortcut doesn't connect to anything either. It's like my EA application just disappeared from my computer.

None of my other Steam games are malfunctioning. (I'd test Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor as they're EA games as well, but I already uninstalled them after finishing them.) Did EA just do a bugged update or what? Judging from the earlier posts here, this isn't a new problem. So what is going on?

  • Not to be a pain but is there any info you can give? MELE won't launch at all, Andromeda sometimes can start but doesn't pick up the saves on my computer, don't use cloud saves, and i hesitate to install any other EA games because of this. I'm not asking for specifics cause it's only been like a week but a rough idea of how big of an issue this is so we can all kinda get an idea of if we're going to be able to play these games in the near or far future.

@Squish42069 The last update that I saw on this was that all of the info sent over for each player was different, so this is not an issue with the EA App or a bug in the game. This seems to be more account-related, or install-related. And by that I mean a lot of players have more than one version of the game tied to their account.

We would need players to contact live support to see if this is the case for each player's account as that is not something we do here.

What you can do, if you have more than one version, for example in Steam I have the original and a 2012 version, is to uninstall the game, uninstall Steam/EA App, delete all Windows temp files as called out, run a registry cleaner, and install only one version if that applies to your library list.

IF this does not work, then something was not uninstalled or deleted from the computer. The other option is to contact support and have them review the games linked to the EA account and make any necessary changes on their end.

I am having the same issue, I was able to play at the beginning of last month. But it will no longer launch and has the error failed to launch game try later. Is there any way to go back to the previous version of the ea app?

  • shouldn't be install related, worked perfectly with Origin but once i did switch over to the EA App games wouldn't start. ME: Andromeda would after having to go into Task Manager and hitting end task on EA App a couple of times, but MELE hasn't started once since.

@EA_Shepard I have serious doubts about this "not being an issue with the EA App". I have about 420 hours into this game that I never once had an issue with when I was using Origin. I have not been able to play my game since being forced to update to the EA App. Just look at the forums filled with this same topic about, not only this game, but many other EA titles, not working properly since the EA App has launched. It just feels disingenuous to claim that its an "account-related, or install-related" problem, when all of those issues only arose from updating to the new app. I'm not blaming you specifically, I know you are simply relaying the information you were given, which I appreciate.

Furthmore, I would love to contact live support, either by phone or by chat but there is no link to be found (anywhere that I have looked) to speak directly, in real-time, to a real support person. The only support options are here on the forums and through filling out a Case report at EA Help. Which took a month to get an email response which provided a solution that didn't work and then the case was closed without a fix.

All I want to do is play the game I paid for. I guess my money only allowed me access to this game for a limited time, I must not have read the fine print close enough.

  • Well i haven't figured out for MELE but for Andromeda there was an Electronics Art folder on my C: drive for it. deleted that and tada suddenly Andromeda starts up fine. idk if it was origin or what that put it there but the fact that the new launcher can't find the right path to the game is bad. if it can see the game was bought on Steam then it should follow the path that Steam has it downloaded too. So for now i'll keep looking to if it's something similar for MELE but haven't found anything as of yet.

  • So after some trial and error i figured out how to get MELE and Andromeda to start for me. Apparently ME: Andromeda had a folder on my C: drive, deleted that and it works...kinda. Still have to at times do the whole end task for the EA APP and try again for it to start but it does. So some kinda pathway error left over from Origin i would guess, maybe Steam i don't know. Still can't locate my saves on my computer though. Now for MELE this is were it gets interesting. No extra folder anywhere nothing. So this morning i decided to try using my 5G mobile hotspot. Started up just fine no problems at all. My question now is why does using a higher internet speed work when there shouldn't be a need for internet at all when the game is downloaded onto my pc? Also having an option on the EA APP to manually locate game files/saves would be nice but i'll settle for just being able to launch these games without having to go through all this.

  • Just had this exact issue. Same error code when I tried to launch from Steam. I typed "origin" into Google, clicked on the first result (which should be the official EA website) and downloaded the EA app. When I launched the executable, I selected the "repair" option when prompted. After this, the EA app opened. I closed it and immediately launched MELE on Steam, and it booted right up to the main menu. I suspect that I had at some point deleted the folder that contained the EA app's constituent files, but not its shortcut. Hope this helps.
