Re: EA App will not install on my PC

Hi @RDATECH Can we try the following?

  • Run the System File Checker tool then Check for Windows and GPU updates
  • Check for other applications that may be limiting EA App or Game performance
  • Untick the options in LAN Settings (make sure nothing is checked under Proxy Server)
  • Change DNS settings (You can use the public google DNS primary: 8.8.8.8, secondary: 8.8.4.4, unless there is a different DNS you would rather use)
  • Put your device in a Clean Boot then run the installer

I appreciate the recommendations - but I have already done this.

I am able to replicate this behavior on a vanilla Windows 11 install, fully updated.

No proxies are set up.  I am using 1.1.1.1 for DNS, and fallback to 8.8.8.8

All updates applied, all firmware updated.

I have tried this on 5 different machines, all running Windows 11, and they are all failing the exact same way.

As a long shot, I just tried a 6th machine (AMD based Ryzen 7 w/Radeon graphics) and even that exhibited the same behavior.

Is there a previous version of the installer I could use to test?

Hi @RDATECH We don't have older versions available to try, to confirm the 5 machines having this issue are they all the same build? If not would it be possible to get DxDiags from them and I can pass this for the team to be aware of?

They were (fresh Windows installs) - I'd rather not do it again, just restored them back to their current configs.

  • Any advice based on the DXDiag provided or do I need to go to Microsoft and get my money back for the subscription since the EA app won't even install on a VANILLA Windows 11 installation...?

  • Figured out a workaround.

Install to the default path - then the installer works.  The problem is with the installer - if you specify an alternate drive, i.e. drive D: it fails with:

    "There was a problem starting

    C:\Windows\Installer\MSICED1.tmp

    C:\Windows\Installer\MSICED1.tmp is not a valid Win32

    application."

    Please fix it.

    Thanks.

  • Is there a fix for this yet? I got a computer for my daughter for Christmas just for the sims and now I can’t get the app downloaded on the computer.

Default path as in the SAME path as the operating system.  For example, if WINDOWS is installed on C: - ensure you are installing to the same drive.  For some reason, the installer will fail if you choose any other drive.

Shoot - At that point, I would recommend locating the installation log files - that is how I figured out it was a path related problem in my case.

    C:\Users\[Your computer login name]\AppData\Local\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\Logs.

Have a look for errors and failures.

Please note - that is the only log path that I could find reference to - the installer logs may be in a different path, might have to search for that...
