This is EA's new policy to reduce server load and weed out those users who aren't tenacious enough to log into origin and play games they've already bought. Statistically, about 40% of users will very quickly stop trying to log into origin and play their games. This means that EA will need 40% less server capacity. But those 40% of users have ALREADY bought some games, meaning they have ALREADY paid their money to EA. And there is NO MORE need to spend money on servicing these users.
