Re: Medal of honor Allied Assault, can't launch expansions.

There is a workaroud:

Move your MOHAA.exe file into a backup directory and rename the expansion's exe you wanna play as MOHAA.

It sucks we have to deal with this *, but at the very least with this method you can play the expansions

  • Thank you for this it worked. Kinda ridiculous and if you want to play them all you’ll need 3 folders labeled accordingly since it changes the icon and move them around depending which you want to play.

This workaround worked for me until Origin became EA.  I recently tried the workaround and got a message telling me:

    "You don't have access

This title may have been downloaded to your device by another user who owns the game.  Log in to a different account or restart the app to try again."

I restored the .exe files to their original names and now I get the same message as above.  WTH

  • i tried that. but when i did the game dissaperad from the list with installed games and had to download it again from scrath. so for me that either dosnt work, and this * aint still fixed from EA ☹️

  • I am trying this but no dice, maybe I'm doing it wrong.  Could you please clarify a couple of things for a computer idiot?

    1) Where do I put the original MOHAA? You mention a "backup directory"? But I don't know what that is.

    2) When I rename the expansion do i add the .exe? Or just change it to MOHAA?

This still is not fixed in Feb 2024. When I click launch the game, it launches to a grey screen and then crashes back to desktop with no error.

    Win 11 - Latest Update

14900K and RTX 4090 on latest Nvidia driver.

    Nothing works to fix this.

Nothing works anymore. The previous workaround doesn't work with the EA app, it thinks the game is corrupt and won't start. The only way to play the expansions is to get the game from somewhere else.

  • Well this is a dead thread I'm sure, time to necro! 👿

I had issues where the game was not launching.

    Fix-

    Downloaded opengl32 from GOG's site.

Had issues where I could not launch the expacs

    Fix-
Renamed MOHAA.exe to MOHAA.exe.x   ( MOHAA (dot) exe (dot) x ) to prevent anything from seeing that installation.

Both expansions work now. Hope this helps anyone wanting to play this game once more!

ive also been taken advantage of with this warchest sale. its simply not good enough to pay for this and no add ons working.

it shouldnt be up to the buyer to try work around messing with renaming folders to get them to work. We paid the money, EA needs to do its job and provide a product that has been paid for.

I will be seeking legal advice on this in the coming days as regards consumer rights etc and paid for goods.

Please provide a solution or reemburse our money.

could you if you dont mind explaining that more clearly. im on windows 11 i dont see the files you talking about. sorry if i sound stupid, much appreciated. it looks like ea wont solve the problem so the only way to play is by your option. i really want to play these again. thanks

  • @sregplayer Not sure how much help I can be without actually looking at your screen, but if you want to try the second fix Spyfoxx mentionned, go to the game directory (typically its, without the quotes, ''C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Medal of Honor Allied Assault Warchest'', or something like that) and look for the ''MOHAA.exe'' file. This is the executable file that is used to run Allied Assault. Obviously you want to run Spearhead or Breakthrough, and to do that you need to ''hide'' that file from the computer so it can't ''read'' it per say. You can do that in two ways I think: the first one is the fix Spyfoxx mentionned, which is changing the ''MOHAA.exe'' file's name to ''MOHAA.exe.x'', OR I think it would also work if you simply move this file to any other directory on your computer. I haven't tried that second option, but it might work as I'm pretty sure the game only reads files that are located in its directory. It's worth a try if changing the name doesn't work for you man. Hopefully this helps you and anyone who wishes to play these expansions, they're very good imo and shouldn't be forgotten 🙂
