Re: TS4 PC Error 'DisplayName Field Missing From Registry' Since May 28th Patch

Hi!

I had this issue yesterday and solved it.

For me, it was to do with my security and firewall settings. It was not letting EA come through.

I went to my anti virus app and unblocked the sims 4 snd EA and it worked (tbh I unblocked everything to be sure).

I am not technically minded but maybe explore the firewall and security route and someone may be able to help you unblock the EA.

I spent hours yesterday and EA web chat did not know either but I worked it out. It might be the same for you guys !

@Megjayne0711 THIS IS IT! I had to play around a bit with my antivirus--Comodo. What I did was try to launch the game and watch the contaiment list. There it was. I removed/unblocked, restarted again, and allowed anytime it asked me for permission. She's up and ready to go. Thanks for this suggestion!!
  • Another confirmed fix here; thank you @ChiVirgo for the Comodo-specific tips.

I usually set up any antivirus changes for games when I first install them, but evidently, whatever changes were made to The Sims 4 launcher executables in the update were causing the problem (which is why my other games worked). Hopefully this can be borne in mind for future changes.

  • Mógłbyś wytłumaczyć jak dokładnie to zrobiłeś? Też mam antywirusa comodo i nie wiem jak się z nim obchodzić😕

  • I was having the same problem, but Comodo was the cause.
    Thanks for mentioning Comodo.

Select Sims from Comodo's "Unblock Applications" and check unblock.

Click in the unblock field and select "Unblock components displayed in [Blocked components]"

    It's refreshing.

    私も同じ症状で悩んでましたがComodoが原因でした。
    Comodo

@millieslayed143  Are you seeing this error or a different one?  If it's different, or you're not sure, please post a screenshot.

Please also double-check that you don't have a third-party antivirus already installed on your computer.  Some systems come with one pre-installed.  You can see under Windows Settings > Apps or Settings > Update & Security > Security.

  • it is this error,, indownloaded an antivirus and sims popped up and i unblocked it . it started to work but was on preparing game for an insane amount of time then stop worked and went back to the same error ,, ive tried everything that people have suggested and nothing works

@millieslayed143  Please disable the antivirus, temporarily of course, and (try to) repair Sims 4.  As long as you don't do anything else at the same time, your computer should be safe.

@millieslayed143  Did you disable or uninstall Comodo entirely, then repair again?  Sometimes these antivirus apps can be stubborn, and the only way to make sure yours isn't the problem is to get rid of it.  You can reinstall it later if this doesn't help.

  • thank you for tryna help but it dosent matter now bcos my laptop broke from trying to sort it but thank you anyways

Sorry to hear this is still causing trouble for you @zoealicebeaut.

Please be sure to grab an EA app Error Reporter ID as outlined in this post so we can gather some additional details to look into this further, thanks.

  • I am having this same issue after updating the Sims 4 today. Here is my error report: b53d8fea-8f36-4969-abaf-3b318100fffa

  • Hey, a few days ago I tried to launch Sims 4. I got a pop up saying DisplayName field missing from registry. I canceled it to do it later but I can't launch the game since then. I've cleared cache, put the EA app in my exceptions folder on the Microsoft Defender, updated my drivers and everything else suggested on the posts. Everytime I go to launch the game, a few seconds pass and EA launcher shows up again as if I never clicked to start the game. My report ID is 11a8e9df-095c-4a7c-b545-c350a179d7be. Thank you
