Unable to Install The Sims 4 After Account Recovery

Hello,

A few days ago, my account was hacked, and I lost all my games. My library was completely empty. Thankfully, with the help of customer support, my games were restored. However, every time I try to install The Sims 4, I receive an error message. This issue doesn’t make sense because The Sims 4 base game is free.

Troubleshooting steps I have already tried:
  • Installing the game from another account on the same PC – it works correctly.
  • Installing the game on my account on another PC – it does not work.
  • Clearing the cache.
  • Uninstalling the EA App and running it as an administrator.
  • Performing a clean boot of Windows.

Support has not provided me with any additional solutions, and I have over 3,000 hours in this game. I really don’t want to lose access to it because of a hack. Please help me resolve this issue.

I have attached an image of the error message for reference.

  • Hi there,

Please first clear the cache on the EA app with the steps here.

If you're still seeing this error, you'll want to get in contact with live support so they can review your account details a bit further and see what's causing this for you. You can submit a help request by following these steps.

    Hey lamara_martin,

Sorry to hear about this ownership error you're getting. Thank you for letting us know.

It looks like it concerns your game licenses, and we don't have visibility on your EA account here on the EA Forums.

Please try to check in with our Support Team once again; they might be able to identify an issue with your game licenses, have a closer look at the account, or that a secondary EA account is involved, and an account merge might be necessary.

Let us know how it goes. In the meantime, we'll keep our eyes open for similar reports on the boards!

It has been 5 long annoying days of repeating myself to SEVERAL "tech support people" with no resolution. I have done a all troubleshooting they have asked. Clean boot, uninstall and re-install the EA app, clear the cache, Hell I even did a factory reset on my computer. NOTHING works, and nobody has a resolution. The amount of money that I have invested in this game for it not to work on this app is truly disgusting. Is anyone else currently dealing with this nightmare and have you found a fix for this?

I started getting this error Sept 4th when there was a game updated. It is now Sept 15, 2025 and I have not gotten a response from EA nor have any of the "technical help" people been able to help. I have spoken to some everyday and all I get is the runaround and being transferred. I have done all troubleshooting techniques and even at the suggestion of one of those reps uninstalled the game, Now I can't even re-install it. To say that I am beyond frustrated is an understatement. 17 days of no response and no solution is absolutely ridiculous!  Is anyone else experiencing this or had any luck with getting the game to download or load?

    Hi ndsquire,

Yes I am in the same place you are, I have also posted the sequence of events with no help. I too have been in contact with several EA advisors and they tried to help and was also transferred to more "qualified" people only to be told they are making a ticket for someone else to look into to try and fix. I have resolve myself to the fact that not only am I out of playing the game I love but also the hundreds of dollars I have spent on the original game and all the DLC's and add ons. I wish I had better news for you or even something helpful. If they figure it out for you and tell you what to do to fix it let me know. best of luck

I was able to fix it myself (slaps forehead)... I needed to upgrade my EA membership to Pro. I'm assuming that at the time I bought the Base game or one of the DLC's my EA membership was Pro and I must have downgraded, but I as I was looking through my game list I noticed that some of them had the EA symbol next to it so I'm already a member let me upgrade to Pro to see if that works and that did it. My game is now installing. I hope this helps
