Unless something has changed, I believe it's currently impossible.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem possible. I miss the personal avatars of the old forums. 

All I can say i at least I got to choose the color of my Plumbob.

So, no one here has a custom avatar anymore? I don't even know who my character is.  I hope this will change.

Excluding EA staff, only Hero/Hero+ can use custom avatars currently I'm afraid.
