Becoming a hero

So...I guess some of  you guys know, I have multiple disabilities. Apparently this is because of something that happened to me when I was an infant, we discovered, that caused all of these ill effects in my life. So I have quite a bit of executive dysfunction that goes along with various disabilities, and the smallest things can be insurmountable and so, so stressful - and stress can exacerbate my disabilities so, that's not good.

In any case. I read about how to be a hero, on the forums. I would love a personal profile picture, as everyone would! But honestly I do not have the ability mentally or emotionally to do what it takes to be a hero. In any sense, in real life or on the forums. Tbh I'm crying a bit lol. It really has highlighted my deficits.

I'm not saying that the system should be changed for me. But I do think that maybe there are others with similar issues, and it's an accessibility issue. Because with certain disabilities, we do not have the ability to do the thing, we do not have access to the thing. So maybe certain things could be thought of in different terms as far as what can be available for everyone.

I didn't really know where to post this. I hope it's ok.

  • Hey there!

First off, I want to thank you for being so open and vulnerable. It takes a lot of courage to share, and I truly appreciate it. Your honesty about your impression and understanding of what it takes to be a Hero lets me know we have some work to do on our side to help clear up some things around that, and I'll do my best to work on that.

I noticed this topic of conversation is similar to this thread. I totally understand why the ability to upload is a hot topic and drives a good amount of discussion.

Just like my colleague EA_Cade mentioned, we're still working on many features on the EA Forums so additional requests will have to wait until core functionality and features are finalized.

However, not only do we face technical challenges for enabling upload of custom avatars/pictures, but we are also bound by online digital legislation and regulations. Ensuring content shared and uploaded to our forums is already a majority of our regular tasks and focus so adding additional resources to vet each profile picture upload would stretch our ability to ensure all content is safe for everyone.

So bringing this back to why members of the Superuser program have the ability to upload customized avatars and profile pictures, they have gained the trust not only of the EA staff but also the community as well.

I hope this helps answer some questions about custom profile pictures. If you have any questions about the EA Superuser Program, visit our SU Programpost or feel free to DM me!

Very true, there are many things that could keep a person from having the ability to do that on an online forum. This is a great comment, very thoughtful.

I appreciate your kind response. There really is a lot going on always behind the scenes than what is visible to those of us not in the know. (Not just with these forums!) My life partner is a creative who works on games and apps, ar and vr and I believe mr? and etc, and while I don't get the play by play of everything obviously, I do know that some things can be...a lot to deal with.

Thanks for explaining things in a way that makes sense. I would like for maybe there to be more clarity about the hero status / superuser program, for sure. I never know if its just my own brain not wanting to comprehend things, or if something needs more clarification in general.
