cannot link my new steam account to my ea

I recently bought fc 26 on my new steam account and i have unlinked my old steam account because i forgot my username and password. If i try to link my new steam account i get a notification that you can only link 1 steam account to a ea account in its livetime. But multiple friends of mine tried the same and it did work for them. 

 

Linked accounts found. Your accounts cannot be linked because the EA account for re*****@gmail.com was previously linked to the Steam account for R******.b. An EA account can only be linked to one Steam account during its lifetime.

    Hey there, please note that if your EA account already had a Steam account linked before, you will need to link your new Steam account to a new EA account. 

    When you link accounts, it creates a lifetime link to protect you from malicious activity and help prevent performance issues in your games. You can unlink your platform accounts from your EA Account if you want to link them to a different EA Account, as long as that EA Account has never had the same account type linked to it before in its lifetime. That means if you unlink an Xbox gamertag from your EA Account, you can’t link a different Xbox gamertag to it in the future. Once you unlink a platform account from your EA Account and link it to a new one, you can’t unlink it again for six months. Further information can be found here.
