I would like to propose a complete concept for Ultimate Team that aims to overcome licensing limitations while greatly boosting nostalgia, gameplay diversity, and community engagement: Era-Specific Player Cards.
The Concept:
Instead of limiting active players to standard promo upgrades, introduce special cards that represent specific iconic eras of an active player's career, capturing their exact playstyle, physical attributes, and performance characteristics at that time (e.g., Cristiano Ronaldo 2008 vs. Ronaldo 2017).
- 2008 Era Version Example: Reflects his early explosive career—focusing on elite dribbling, high skill moves, raw pace, long-range power shots, and free-kick accuracy.
- 2017 Era Version Example: Reflects his prime clinical era—focusing on tactical positioning, exceptional clinical finishing, high physical presence, and world-class heading ability.
- Visual & Physical Customization: Each card features the player’s era-accurate body model, hairstyle, custom animations, and signature running styles.
- Smart Licensing Solution: To bypass licensing hurdles regarding former clubs, the card will maintain the player's current licensed club logo, while focusing strictly on their historic stats, playstyles, and visual representation from that specific era.
