I don't know EA's policies but I do tech support for a living and I do not sugar coat things for people or give false hope just to appease people. With that said, I am just going to offer my personal opinion to you and hopefully save you ongoing frustration.
I would be shocked if EA can do anything for you at all if there is no way that they can verify you. Which typically is by email or phone number. If you do not have access to either of those for that EA account, then you could be a scammer or account thief for all they know. A company cannot just go in and remove or change account information without verifying account ownership in some way.
So your best bet would be to go to your PS people with the situation and get a refund on the game. They should be able to help you unlink that EA account since it is just an unlink and doesn't require any account manipulation other than on your PS account which I assume you know your information for. Then you would be free to create a new EA account and link it to your PS account and be happily on your way. Yes, you would lose any purchases that were on the old EA account but there is nothing you can do about that.
As I said, I do not know EA policies but maybe you can search them up. I wish you the best!

An advisor will verify by asking some questions about the account's history since chances are good they don't have access to the email any longer.

That is exciting news for them it sounds like. It makes me happy that it sounds like EA tries to help people in that regard. I know many companies will not, including the one I work for. It is just the worst thing to have to tell someone they've lost their account, and even worse when I see multiple contacts and advisors just don't do their jobs because they don't want a bad review or to get yelled at. Even when people are mad I find they still appreciate not being yanked around. Thank you for educating us about this :)
