A Way Out does not start (Steam)

Hi,

A ways out does not start from steam. When I open the EA App seperately, it recognizes I own it though steam (My Games), but tells me it is not installed and I need to install it through steam (although it is).

Details:

When in steam, I start "play" and EA launcher load bar starts loading. A few seconds later, the play button in Steam switches to "verifying", then verifies (can be seen in downloads section where it is verifying files). When it is done, everything just jumps back as it was before i hit start, i.e. the button in steam turns back to "play". (step by step stepbystep.jpg)

What i noticed is that EA App recognizes it correctly as owned, but shows it as not installed, while Titanfall 2 is correctly recognized and installed in the same way (see inEA.jpg)

Have this issue since I purchased in early 2023, back then the EA App was still quite new and bugs very frequent, so I put it off for a few months. Since I have tried 4 or 5 times extensively and put it off in hopes for a fix, but now am realizing it isn't coming.

Also noticed that when installed through steam, the InstallLocation in registry does not get filled out (uninstall shows up fine though). Adding manually does not affect the issue though in any way.

Path [Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Steam App 1222700]

Two items that feel like they would be helpful to know:

  1. How does EA App know that a game is installed in steam? Is that a registry setting? Which one?
  2. Is there a logfile detailing the game startup and/or communication between EA App and steam to troubleshoot where exactly something goes wrong?

Both would help to isolate and circle down on the issue.

What I have tried so far:

  • basically everything in the last 5 topics regarding this issue on the forums.
  • Reinstalled A way out, EA App, Steam multiple times
  • Ran everything as admin (manually as well as through properties) and not
  • Updated drivers and apps etc (throughout the year of having this issue multiple versions of everything)
  • Sfc /scannow
  • The OPENSSL_ia32cap=:~0x20000000 trick in multiple variants
  • Vcredist updates and repairs (2013, 2015, 2017-2022)
  • Antivir, Firewall, antispy, web/ftp servers etc. temp disabled or N/A
  • Disabled family library sharing and family view in steam
  • Changed file location
  • And lots of more things

Thanks!

Hi @Dirtz2k, Thanks for the Dxdiag!

To check do you have your storage drives set up in a RAID or which drive is A Way Out currently installed on?

    Hi @EA_Illium ,

its on F:\ drive (1TB SSD), in Steam Library there. No Raid set up. I have multiple Steam Libraries though.

    Best regards,

  • HI @EA_Illium ,

do you have an update? Or is it about time to issue credit or a new activation on another platform?

    Hey @Dirtz2k

Currently, we have no updates, we have passed this on to the team to be aware of.

I've been trying to see if this will occur on my Steam account, to check do you have multiple Steam accounts signed into the device at once or do you use the family library sharing that steam offers?

    Cheers!

  • Hi @EA_Illium ,

Thank you for the update. I do have family sharing enabled and there is one other account that I had logged in to on this PC.

    Best regards,

  • Hi @EA_Illium,

is there an update on this, or do you have any other resolution to this?

You have been kind, but I believe you can understand that it is quite frustrating to have spent Money on a game and not being able to play it for 1.5 years, despite putting many tens of hours of troubleshooting into it.

    Best regards,

    Hi @Dirtz2k

We don't have any updates to share on the bug report, To check if you sign out of all accounts outside of the one the owns A Way Out are you able to launch the game?

  • Hi @EA_Illium ,

I removed other accounts, disabled family sharing, reinstalled steam, but still the same:

when I start, it opens EA briefly, then goes back to "Validating" in steam.

    Best regards,
