AI really hate pitting for inters

The Ai logic around pitting for inters seems really off this year. My most recent example having just occurred France.

I'm racing Leclerc for the win, with ten laps to go it's clearly time for inters. I haven't stopped yet, so I stretch my stint and go straight to inters, along with the ai who haven't made their stops yet. Leclerc, and the ai who've already pitted, however, brave it out until there are four laps to go. By which time, I've not only caught him again, but had him for breakfast and cleared off down the road. Only then does he box for the inter, eventually finishing 20 seconds off in p2. 

It's not the first time I've experienced it, but it really is a shame because it usually ends up ruining what are quite good races between player an AI.
