F1 2023 controllers not recognized with HTC Vive Pro

Summarize your bug The game loads fine, and the controllers appear in the HMD. However, clicking any button on either controller has no effect at all. The game only seems to respond to keyboard input, but that's not really practical with a VR headset on.
What is your 16 digit Report Code? n/a
Can you please provide the name of your current internet service provider? Windstream
Which area is the bug/glitch in? Single Player
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Start Steam VR, load F1 2023 from the Home screen. Try clicking any button on your controllers. Mine don't work at all in this game, but they work fine in other games.
What happens when the bug occurs? Nothing. Can't play the game.
What do you expect to see? I expect to see inputs from the controllers to work.

Nothing else to add at this time.  Please give me suggestions.  I've tried reinstalling SteamVR and re-pairing the controllers.  Nothing seems to work at all.

    @9f4a4eb2b07b8310By controller do you mean a steering wheel? It’s annoying but you need to change the way you launch the game until it works. I sometimes have issues with my Fanatec CSL DD Pro not registering once the game launches in full screen. When I enter desktop mode with the game windowed, inputs register. 

    Launching the game in Steam (desktop view) via the VR controller doesn’t work for me.

    Launching the game in Steam VR mode works.

    Launching the game in Steam desktop view with a mouse also works.

    I use a Pimax 8KX with Valve knuckle controllers, and the Fanatec CSL DD Pro.

    No, I'm not talking about a steering wheel.  I'm just using the controllers that came with my HTC Vive.  I was under the impression that's all I needed.  I'm not sure if I could use a steering wheel setup.  I'm in a wheelchair and can't use pedals for throttle/brake control.  The game came up inside SteamVR, but the two controllers are not recognized at all.

    @9f4a4eb2b07b8310 I don’t think the game supports VR controllers as inputs, but I may be mistaken.

    Cheapest alternative would be to probably connect an Xbox controller and use that instead.

    And you could use a wheel with analogue paddles to simulate a throttle and brake pedal; the McLaren GT3 wheel from Fanatec for example.

    Thanks for that information.  I was afraid that might be the case.  I may have to shelve this, because I don't have a place to put any kind of wheel arrangement.  I'll need to noodle on it for a while.  I appreciate your time!
