F1 23 Icons

Hi guys, and to all development staff for F1 23,

this post is just pure speculation, but I would actually touch on something regarding Career Mode in F1 23, and that's the My Team Icons.

I don't know which ones will make the cut, but here's what I would prefer:

- Mark Webber (Bronze): You can't deny it, when he was alongside Sebastian Vettel at Red Bull, he was an amazing driver, and I think I might go for him at some point.

- Felipe Massa (Bronze): This is another driver that would be cool to see, and I even saw some people use him in F1 22. And you possibly can't go wrong with a vice champion here.

- Daniel Ricciardo (Bronze): I am 99.9% certain that Daniel will only be Red Bull's reserve driver, so putting him into the Icon roster is just fair. I like the man, and he was always the funny person in the teams he has been in.

- Kimi Raikkonen (Silver): Who doesn't remember the Iceman? And since he retired from F1 two years ago, it would be very cool if you could get him into your team and race alongside him, even if it's just virtually.

- Jacques Villeneuve (Silver): The 1997 Driver World Champion from Williams is also a memorable pick. He is a good driver, and he got a lot out of the Williams back then, same with his teammate Damon Hill.

- Mika Hakkinen (Silver): Who doesn't remember the two time champion with a turbulent 1999 season? We all know that Mika is a great driver, and even though I haven't had him as my teammate so far, it would be more than amazing to have him back.

- Ayrton Senna (Gold): Probably the best driver in the world of F1, and probably someone who could have challenged Michael Schumacher in some years. You can't deny it, Ayrton Senna has amazing talent and a huge legacy, and this would only continue more if he makes the cut for the My Team Icons again.

- Sebastian Vettel (Gold): Seb might be gone from F1 in real life, but it doesn't mean that he has to be gone from F1 for good. I never really had Seb as a teammate this much, only for one season of Driver Career, but that's basically it. Since he left Ferrari, I started to like him more and more, and it's honestly sad that he retired. Would be a really nice tribute to see him as a My Team Icon.

- Michael Schumacher (Gold): You know him. The man that became champion seven times. No icon roster in F1 games is complete without the legendary Michael Schumacher.

The only thing I want though, is that nobody runs the number 6. I never got the chance to use the 6 since Latifi came in, but now that he's gone, I want to have the 6 for myself.

Anyway, what do you think about this list? Are there more Icons that Codies should add? Let them know in a reply.

Good day,

Nico

Nice work! Your list is great and covers all the main candidates for the F1 icons for the next f1 games.

I would too would love to see Daniel Ricciardo, as well as Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen!

I also agree with you on the numbers - once a number is not being used anymore it should be straight away become available for the next game (e.g. 6, 3, 5, 47, etc).

Would also love to see numbers that are not currently available for other reasons become available, however in some cases this isn’t possible as they’ve been retired out of respect for drivers who passed away.

@Radoko34 True. Though the only number that's not available because an F1 driver died was the 17 that Jules Bianchi had. The rest is either occupied by an Icon (like the 41 for Ayrton Senna or the 91 for Michael Schumacher) or unavailable because an active F1 driver runs it.

My main worry with this dilemma is that if they bring Nico Rosberg back, he will most likely have the 6, and that's the number I want for my driver when I start Career Mode.
  • I wouldn't like to see Ricciardo as Bronze, I think if a driver gets icon status in a game its only fair they are represented at their best. He definitely deserves being an option and ignoring the McLaren years.

I'd like to see some lesser talked about drivers like Jarno Trulli who gave Alonso a good run for his money at Renault.

Juan Pablo Montoya who gave Schumacher a big run for his money!

Nick Heidfeid who was one of the long running drivers of F1.

And I won't stop pushing for equality and diversity, I'd love to see some of the greats and up and coming women drivers. Jamie Chadwick would be a very welcome driver for My Team, Michèle Mouton as a legendary icon, she wasn't in F1 but this would be an amazing fantasy icon, how iconic she really is! She smashed down gender barriers without batting any eye! Making stats based on her rally years wouldn't be too much of a challenge based on how well she drove on tarmac in such a challenging car I believe was much more suited to gravel.

In the very least an ability to create a second driver for My Team solo career so there is the option not only to keep all current drivers lined up to their official teams but also for anyone who doesn't want to us icons or F2 drivers right away. This would fix the gender option while no female driver is lined up for 2023 in F2, though Tatiana Calderón did finish the 22 season in F2 so in theory should be added to F1 23's F2 22 lineup as has been the current trend, though was not added later along with the change in F1 22's game.

Basically just more options, keep pushing for more, options/customisation make a game everything!

@CarystusGaming I believe Jamie Chadwick is in F1 23 also story mode going by the trailer obviously has a female protagonist.

It's stupid, that icon drivers is behind of pay wall. Your need buy special version about game, if you want use them. For example in NHL 23 we can use alumni players free. Hopefully we could use icon drivers free in the future.
