F1 23 Two Player Career AI, Connectivity Issues and glitches
Two Player Career, AI and Connectivity Issues
I am done with Two Player Career and tired of multiplayer in general due to multiple problems.
I have been driving 10 races in a 16 race calendar with a friend of mine on F1 23 on the PS5 and we've had some good fun driving against eachother. Furthermore we both have 100+ hours in the game in both singleplayer, multiplayer and thus also Two Player Career.
And there are some noticable problems that hinder us from continuing further in multiplayer and Two Player Career:
To start off with a more general issue I haven't seen being addressed so far, being the connection issues. I have always had around 350mb/s and have had no connectivity issues in neither F1 games nor other games in general. I'd consider my wifi as being very steady. So is my mate's. However in Multiplayer and especially visible in Two Player Career the connection has been horrible. Glitching cars, lag spikes and even to the point where I got overtaken in the first season of the Belgian GP in Two Player Career, twice, because of a lag spike. This while my I have zero connectivity issues in other games and never had any problems like these either with previous F1 games. This is really annoying as I get punished for quite literally nothing. There's nothing wrong with either of our internet. I don't know if there's a solution or if it is just down to EA/Codemaster servers, but I'd be glad to hear a solution if there is one.
Next is a quick gripe I have that I just would like to mention, and it is that I've had four mechanical failures in 10 races, once three times in a row. I don't know if this is a glitch or if this is because of my settings (highest possible) or if it is a mix of both but I don't feel like I should have to change my settings to make the game more playable. This ties a little bit into Red Flags too, where I have to change my settings to make the game more playable. Red Flags are still an issue in terms of AI driving around under Red Flags and some other glitches that I haven't directly experienced, but seen online.
Next, the AI in Two Player Career mode is absolute madness. Aside from the fact that they feel much, much, much different as oppose to their counterparts in Singleplayer, their aggressiveness is insane. They refuse to yield when I am clearly in front which has resulted in a lot of crashes and LOTS of broken chassis. This came to it's absolute limit when I crashed with Zhou while we were both entering the pit lane in Great Britain. It had started to rain which resulted in a lot of pitstops. I was ahead going into the pitlane but he was still next to me. Next thing I know he crashed into me which caused me to spin back out onto a wet track on dry tires and I had to drive around another lap with a broken chassis and front wing before being able to enter the pits to get wet tires. At the next round in Belgium, I was driving in P6 with Hamilton behind me. Hamilton was in battle with Bottas behind him. Because of the aggressiveness of the AI, I got rear-ended by Hamilton which caused me to lose the position to Hamilton while Bottas stayed behind me. That shouldn't be happening on the same AI level where I have no issues in My Team Career. Now I'd like to make it clear that there's inherently nothing wrong with AI being more aggressive. I, in fact, believe the AI in singleplayer is too passive. However this inconsistency combined with the overkill of aggressiveness and all-around stupidity and lack of trying to avoid a collision results in a worse experience in Two Player Career. It seems like EA forgot to update the behavior of the AI in Two Player Career while, at the same time, changing the difficulty of the AI.
Finally, at Monaco and Great Britain, we noticed a glitch after a mechanical failure of one of the players in a Two Player Career. After the retired player leaves the lobby, as soon as the player who still drives passes the retired player, AI seem to lose positions. This resulted in my friend lapping the entire field in Monaco every time he passed my retired car, while this resulted in me gaining three positions on Stroll, Alonso and Zhou in Great Britain after the other player left. This is certainly a glitch, which isn't all that bad considering the other player just needs to stay in the lobby, but on the other hand that results in the retired player's car standing at a marshall post for the remainder of the race causing a yellow flag in that part of the track.
I'm sorry if this seems too much like a rant, it is not what I'm trying to achieve. I'm trying to highlight problems that feel like easy fixes to make Two Player Career very fun. This has nothing to do with the fact that (Two Player) Career got left in the dust this year, although I do feel like there is a causality, but that is another discussion. Furthermore, I know that these are issues that have been touched on by the community in other posts but I do feel like I need to emphasize that these issues need to be fixed and I must admit I'm a bit disappointed they haven't been already by the first patch. Finally, if the aggressiveness seems like I'm bad at the game, I can confidently say I don't but I feel like that shouldn't be an issue, as I would assume if I experience these issues on my AI level, others would so too on their AI level, wether that is higher or lower than mine.
If there is anything that can be solved on my part, I'd be glad to hear it 🙂 I also have footage of everything that has happened in Great Britain and Belgium so if there's a desire I'd be glad to link it.
