Ghosting ruins Esports for me.

TCAM makes me not want to watch it. These so called pro’s should be mandated in cockpit view. Why make it easier than real life? Real pro’s don’t sit on their halo too don’t they? 

but tcam gives widescreen view and gives an instant time gain compared to cockpit view, which makes driving each lap fast and consistant 100 times harder. 

as long as the “pro’s” don’t drive like pro’s, i can’t take any form of esports serious. Iracibg, rracing, rennsport force players in cockpit. 

esports is a joke as long as the pro’s use cheats like Tcam. 

and before people start hating: i have seen multiple esport “pro’s” been on TV, and mandatory in cockpit view, they fail hopelessly, and are seconds slower and then the excuses come out like “i am used to tcam, i can’t see the track, blabla” come out. 

yeah driving like an actual pro harder than a widescreen view from up top.

Let’s not start the TCAM discussion. I fully agree with you!

@zombie182Excuses excuses…(not specifically you, but the esport drivers, they just want the easy way) i race cockpit cam, I use the proximity arrows, backmirror to compensate the loss of side mirrors, never had any problem. It has to do with awareness, and simply getting used to. But no matter what, you will never be as fast or consistant as on tcam. Let me say, those cam setup vids, they explain that they set it up to see as much in front as possible to be able to hit all apexes and consistancy. Never heard the “see whosnexttome” excuse, but that could be because i don’t care about a pro challenge thing when people are allowed to use crutch cam settings. 

they are the pro’s right? Then they should be the best. And should be soo good that knowing who’s next to them is automatism. They should have so much skill that things like that are no issue. Then you have pro skills. And if I can do races without hitting people, (not saying i’m a pro!) then it should be peanuts for them! 

Tcam is used to consistantly hit the apexes, see the next turn way up ahead, position the car wach round the same way. Why do you think the times are so close?

And indeed @BadMayh3m mistakes are easier made. JUST LIKE IN REAL. Because it’s harder, mistakes are easier made, and it only improves the racing when people have a harder time to go lap after lap the exact same way. It’s like looking at robots racing, while in cockpit view you need to be much more aware, careful, and you can’t hit each apex perfect like on tcam, resulting in mistakes.

Tcam is a form of assist/cheating. Everyone says they use tcam because it’s the quickest, not because they can see what’s around them. Just watch how much the look back button is pressed. I get dizzy and the “pro’s” developping parkinsons.

cockpit view is trash indeed though, since FOV slider includes the whole cockpit which is stupid btw, in car your fov doesn’t change because you “sit in a fixed position, but apparently it’s hard to make only everything outside the cockpit change like it’ss supposed to be. (Or easier to program.)

At this point iRacing has surpassed ACC and become my main sim - F1 has been the third racing related game in my list for a couple of years now, sometimes even bring bumped down to 4th. iRacing doesn't even have camera options outside of replay mode; it's cockpit-only and the settings you can adjust are just the ones pertaining to FOV and POV.

I do like myself a cockpit cam, that should be obvious. Even with formula cars on iRacing: formula vee and FF1600, which are low powered open wheelers, and F4, F3 and now the SF23. The F4 and SF23 which are single seaters with halo, but honestly the halo is nowhere near the top spot of visibility issues in those cars as you get used to it pretty quick - and can make their edges semitransparent.

Most of my time in Codemasters' F1 games now are in cockpit view as well.

That said, the "drivers don't sit on the halo" kind of argument makes it to the front row of my grid of nonsensical things about racing games and sims.

Yes, cockpit cam is mainly for realism and a level playing field. But games, devs and pro drivers (drivers, real racing drivers playing on a sim - not eSports players) are all markedly conscious of how a sim can offer an approximation of racing in some aspects, and only a similar feel in others. Hence virtual mirrors, radars, and the like. Hence tons of dev time spent on supporting triple screens.

Real drivers don't sit on the halo. And they are acutely aware of the lack of depth of field, static POV, peripheral vision, and specially G forces. Even pro drivers (again, the real deal - professional racing drivers, not players) with thousands worth of triples and motion rigs and active pedals are all inescapable aware of that separation you get from being one with the car and track in a real cockpit, and sitting behind multiple screens in your living room.

Saying "drivers don't sit on the halo" is dismissive of the way even proper simracing titles put real money and resources into supplementing that deficit.

I do resent that the official F1 eSports scene is full of short races with ghosting and players on T-cam. But that's what this franchise aims to be, and what it provides. It's a video game. 

It makes no sense to resent esport players for using T-cam when F1 games are miles behind proper sims in supplementing that realism deficit. No sense handicapping yourself when all you have is this arcade of an experience.

So yeah, real drivers don't sit on the halo. They don't play EA's F1 either. And it's ok as long as we take it for what it is, a simcade videogame and not a sim.

If I’m in a car irl be it on road or on a track.  If I had a choice off positions where to drive car from,  I would always  choose to sit behind the wheel.  Where your supposed to be.   If I’m playing any racing game I’d never choose to drive from cockpit pov.    I’d pick halo or bonnet even bumper cam.    When driving in real life on a track,  my whole body feels and processes feedback from the car.  Then I use the eyes in my head which is attached to my neck to look towards the horizon but in a instant glance at 3 rearview mirrors that are all positioned perfectly to see almost everything behind.   But with a quick glance I can check my blind spots:  Then I use my ears to listen for other cars that are close by.  

When playing a racing game most off us are looking at a 2D screen which it extremely limits your view and awareness to what.could be right next to you.  Unless you also have a decent audio system giving proper surround sound you can’t rely on your ears.  Then even if you’ve got a decent sim rig set up.  The only feedback your getting is from the steering wheel and perhaps acbrake pedal.  

irl I use steering wheel to tell me what kind off surface I’m driving on.  Brake pedal tells me if I’m locking brakes.   My backside provides  all the feedback from what the car is doing along with my eyes looking to the horizon.  So seeing any movement i can react 

Playing  racing games, even with high end rigs is limiting.  So using a camera position that gives you a better POV and awareness helps players negate playing a games limitations.  

Anyone  using a  mid tier sim  setup or less and a  cockpit elitist is cutting their nose off to spite their face.    Using tvpod handles no different to cockpit.  But with Tvpod your getting to maximise your experience just by being able to use your eyes
