Is saving tyres in Qualifying bugged? I can only use old softs in races.

So I have a My Team career set to medium session length and full qualifying, most qualifying sessions I manage to keep 1 or even 2 sets of Softs untouched but when I get into the race, the strategies only let me use the old softs I've qualified on and the fresh ones magically disappear.

I know the tyres you don't use in practice get returned but the ones you don't use in qualifying don't, right?

Am I doing something wrong or is this a known bug?

Saving tyres in Qualifying seems pointless to me right now.

  • I have not had this happen to me, but I haven't had a lot of time to play since the most recent patch.

For the most part the tyres do not get returned and should be available in the race... however the "Q3" tyre (the right most soft) does so if that is the one your saving that's why it's disappearing.

  • Yes it is still bugged. Had it twice in league races already that a saved tire (Short Quali Sesson) did not move over to the race and the team put me on used softs (and somehow even the ones that there used the most)

Yesterday I talked to a mate and he said that the pretty old "save tire bug" is still in the game and now even included short qualis as well. before Ive known this bug only from full quali sessions. You always had to save your Q3 Tire and use the Q1 tire instead. Now on Short Quali , apparently it is the "last soft" on balanced compound that you need to save for it to work.

its mindblowing. this game is so *. especially when this happens in competitive racing you really start to question what these people at EA are doing. certainly not programming very well.

even the large friends list bug is still int he game if you have crossplay enabled. by now, twice has EA said that this is fixed. it still isnt. Remarkable.

@Wollcott Yeh through further research and playing its only the Q3 mandatory tyre(s) that disappear.
Trouble is the game really doesn't make it that obvious unless you figure it out the hard way.

@matty0blobberReturning the Q3 exclusive soft tyres is in the regulations of the sport for a long time. In the game, I'm pretty sure it's at least in one of those mini tutorials accessible via the menus.

@mariohomoh Should at least be given a little heads up rather than assuming players are die hard and know all the regulations though right?
Even so I still think its bugged cause you can miss Q2 and sometimes it won't let you use the Q2 softs in race and only the old Q1 tyres.

@matty0blobber Would you consider the offside rule an obscure detail that only "die hard" football fans know about? Or, to keep it to F1, parc fermé?
It's in the tutorials. And with how verbose Marc is, I wouldn't be surprised if he happens to mention the Q3 tyres being returned at the end of the session too.

This qualifying ruleset has been in force since what, 2014?

Anyway, yeah the game should make good job of introducing newbies to the F1 world. If you feel like it not making the tutorials + engineer + the UI marking the Q3 reserved softs as mandatory didn't make this 2014 qualifying format ruleset accessible enough for you, here's the Game Suggestions board:

@mariohomohFirst off its not in the tutorials and it doesn't specify what that little explanation symbol means on the q3 tyre on the actual tyre select screen, I know what it means but you can't assume everyone does simply because you know, that's my point. It needs to be more obvious.

Secondly you can't compare a basic rule like offside which is known worldwide and hasn't changed to an ever changing tyre regulation, dumb/odd comparison imo.

Even after all that the strategy screen doesn't let you cycle through all the sets of softs you have and only gives you one of the oldest or the worst set you've qualified on.
    Stop being a snob.
