Mechanical Failure Question

Noticed a few oddities with Mechanical Failures and just curious if this is normal and if anyone else is experiencing them.

1. Marc isn't notifying me ahead of time. It just kind of happens and the race ends. Is that normal? Are other people being warned?

2. I have an issue where my Gearbox turned Yellow (Was not at full damage after the race). Marc came on radio and said the gearbox is warn out and to be careful with it for the rest of the race. My car just auto pulled over and I retired from the race. The gearbox was worn, but I can still use it, so I wasn't sure why I was retiring.

Just curious if anyone is having these issues at all! I'm worried now going into races that I'm going to just randomly retire out, because I've had faults in 25% of races so far without warning

My Team car actually! Just felt odd that my Gearbox was only yellow, but forced me to retire. I will say, I do feel like I am driving a Ferrari in My Team. My quali pace puts me on pole but my tire deg is awful so I just get passed in the race and have my engine blow up all the time 😕

@afcon692 Yeh if you start a my team as a newcomer team expect tyre wear to be really bad and faults to happen often (if turned on).
I personally don't mind it cause the mode gets too easy otherwise, but everyones different.

Once you get a couple of tyre wear upgrades.  Wear isn’t an issue.  I’ve upgraded 2 minor and a major tyre wear.  My 50% race strategy is now always soft/medium or visa versa

  • To answer your questions,

    1. That's normal right now. I know that you can disable these notifications on mechanical failures by decreasing the engineer verbosity, at least this was the case in the previous two games, but I kept it on full the entire time. I think that's realistic though, as you only know about mechanical failures when it's too late. See Nico Hulkenberg in Bahrain 2019.
    2. That's normal so far as well. I always would have preferred a kind of gearbox problem in which the wear jumps to 80% and you lose a gear, and then the team tries to fix the problem, and if you're lucky, the gear comes back, the highest chance would be that the gear does not come back, and with a very low chance (10% or so), the problem is critical, the wear jumps to 100% and you have to stop the car. Also, I don't know why the gearbox can only be shown yellow at most and not red.

@matty0blobber I for example make a rule to enable mechanical failures, but disable them in certain scenarios like Sprint races. And once I got three failures in one season, the feature gets disabled until the next season.

I like it once I had a mech failure of engine that was green (first race Bahrain) and after that went directly to 100% usage

Another time I got a retire because turbo fail but then I checked it was still green at 18% I honestly think was a but it should have been 100% usage broken as the engine but maybe is intended who know there are different type of mech problems

I started probably 20 or more my team season and brought a couple to 3-4 seasons I did it to try to select the best track for my skill and best difficulty most of them were 5 laps race only recently I started my official one all full practice quali race
