More FPS when I alt-enter the game

Weird issue I'm having here. When I start the game, I get 40 - 50 FPS in the main screen and game until I press alt-enter to make the game windowed. When I press that combo again, I jump to 100+ fps in game.

Never seen this happen before.

  • I may have found the culprit - it could be either Nvidia reflex or variable rate shading.

I turned off variable rate shading (it went on automatically with the ultra setting) and I changed reflex from On+Boost to just On.

I don't have the issue anymore.

Edit: I turned on variable rate shading and it seems fine (I turned it back on because it's supposed to be "free performance") but when I turned boost back on for reflex, I got the issue again. In my case it's reflex on+boost that's causing the issues.

Sorry you don't have the answer you seek.

Top of my head fullscreen and windowed will run differently in terms of FPS. Also may effect overlays and things like scaling, G-SYNC, V-SYNC or Freesync, and FSR/DLSS, etc.

@SteveJackson It's been 4 months without any fix. It's the only game which has this behavior. If you read #4 and #7 you will see how I do temporarly fix the FPS issue after every game launch.

I don’t think it’s a CM fix. I don’t have the issue on AMD. It’s an Nvidia issue IMO. Lean on them in their forum. Someone will know which driver doesn’t display the issue or how to fix.

I recently reinstalled a fresh Windows 11 with newest driver. The issue persist. No other games have the same issue. When we can expect a fix?

Probably when you desist in what you're persisting with. Something in your config makes you different to the main.

DDU your driver, don't change any settings after installation. Delete your hardware_settings_config.xml before playing.

If it's the same post a dxdiag. There are issues with 24.1.1 on AMD on certain cards (RX7600 has had issues), reverting to 23.11.1 seems to have fixed those.

You have the advice from @Nylink about not enabling certain nVidia driver features sorted the issue for him. He may also tell you which driver release works for him.

I think it's fair to say that issues arising after a game release are for the vendor to sort out if enabling new features don't work with a particular title. If a dev team decide to patch in a feature that becomes available during the patch cycle then it's theirs to fix.

CM have withdrawn certain technologies as they haven't been able to get them to function as they'd hoped. nVidia had a specific build made open to them 4 months ago.

I can't tell you what it was for or what future release nVidia devs may have been working on, just that it existed.
