Guys, I am flipping done.I gave the game numerous chances over its lifetime, but the most recent bug that I discovered has completely killed my confidence in EA and the entire game.I wanted to play the Italian Grand Prix in my My Team Career, I put the Fault Types to Standard, and I actually got hit with an engine failure, even though this setting is supposed to prevent that from happening.Seriously, unless EA SPORTS hand ALL development work to Codemasters, I will NEVER purchase an F1 game ever again. The entire franchise is turning into one huge bug fest, and EA SPORTS are doing NOTHING, NOTHING AND NOTHING AGAIN to fix it, and this is what is absolutely peeving me.I'm not joking. You tell Codemasters to fix something, they do it, and release an update when they're done with it. You tell EA SPORTS to fix something, you gotta wait two eternities until they actually decide to work on it, and then it takes three eternities more until they release an update that fixes it. And by the time they fixed the one issue, 50 years have gone by.I'm sorry, but unless something happens that miraculously saves F1 23 and/or the F1 franchise as a whole, I will not touch this massive pile of garbage ever again.Farewell, and see you in F1 2030, should it ever come.Nico (aka the guy who loved F1 2020 with heart and is just looking for a viable successor to it)

@LuckyNico92They make changes to the game every year in a bid to keep it fresh. So codemasters make changes to the existing code. When I say as they have always done. As in as they have always developed the games. The base code for this game is years old now. It’s been chopped and changed so much it’s caused many many bugs. I believe they call is spaghetti code on the trade. Where it’s just a huge jumbled up mess.Where the original coders have long since left Codemasters and those who cone after struggle to understand and make sense off what the previous coder has implemented into the game.Also this is not the worst F1 game codemasters has put out not even the second worst.2020 is the GOAT and its hard to improve on that. Only way is down.

Codemasters keep on being the sole developers of this franchise. EA has nothing to do with it in any direct manner, acting as publishers and providing their in-house tools for QA and data analysis. While I agree with the general state of affairs that Codemasters is the developer (i.e. the only people to touch the code) and EA is the publisher (i.e. marketing, sales, etc.), I also agree that since the tie-in with EA, the game's gone downhill, and it feels like it's the influence/direction that EA want which is steering Codemasters into making the game they've made. The total focus on F1 World now while the career modes feel like a forgotten corner of the game feels very much like an EA decision that Codemasters have had to follow. They're essentially handcuffed. They've sold out.But the main thing above all that has put me right off purchasing any future F1 games is the total lack of regard for bugfixing:People report bugsBugs claim to be fixed in patchnotesBugs turn out not to have been touched at allNext patch is released 2 to 4 weeks later.Bugs claim to be fixed in patchnotes againBugs still not touched.Ad infinitum.This has happened repeatedly, patch after patch, since the release of F1 22, co-incidentally the first game in the fully connected EA franchise. I don't know the structure of things but I'm guessing that EA have taken over Quality Assurance? Because this is a similar pattern I've seen people complain about with Battlefield 2142.There's no communication. No acknowledgments, no fixes for the things that really matter such as issues with red flags, this years big feature addition. It's almost as if the game's been abandoned already if it weren't for the patch fixing stuff with F1 World, a mode that more and more people seem to care less and less about. I hate it when I see people in comments say "dead game", but I feel like I'm experiencing one for the first time now. It feels like they've already given up.It's different at WRC, they have one thing that the F1 franchise has been missing since the old forums, and that's a community liason guy with a genuine passion for the sport. They've got PJ Tierney, we had Barry at the old forums but nobody has really taken his place. We've got the already-in-place EA community guys, but seemingly nobody who's hands-on with the game behind the scenes, someone who wants to play it as much as we do. So there's a missing link and instead we're left in the dark.

I don't want to snap at you, mate. But you just do not understand what a gem F1 2020 was, and that we NEVER had an F1 game as good as this ever since EA took over. If I didn't know better, I would say that all succeeding F1 games become worse and worse every year, and not really because the handling is awful or the AI is overpowered in several scenarios. It's the condition of the game as a whole.

F1 23 has the most amount of bugs that any F1 game had at launch, and I feel like with every update, more and more bugs find their way into the game, and they hamper the experience so much that you soon just want to toss the controller into the corner and stop playing. Heck, not even the crashing bug from F1 22 comes close to that.

F1 2020 didn't have any of those problems, and this gem of an F1 game was made by Codemasters. And if you are correct with Codemasters having full development control, then someone needs to tell EA to leave Codemasters alone and let them do their damn job, even if the release of the game is postponed. It's all about making a viable successor to F1 2020, and for three straight years, this was not the case.

Look, mate. If Codemasters did it like they always did, then these things would have been different:
F1 2021 would have had a grippy handling model and no ridiculous damage model that takes away 90% of your front downforce if you minimally scratch the wing.
F1 22 wouldn't have had this nifty crashing bug that existed at launch (I speak from experience) and the AI wouldn't have been so massively overpowered.
F1 23 would never have had this many bugs with red flags, engine failures and graphical glitches.
You see where this is going? If Codemasters want to make a competitive successor to F1 2020, they need to take the said game as a base, remodel the cars, insert the driver roster for the current season, focus on the Career Mode experience, be creative with championships you can play in Solo mode (maybe giving us finally the chance to play races with Supercars), but most importantly, and that's what made F1 2020 such an amazing experience, sort out all possible bugs before the release. And even if they need to postpone the release, who cares? At the very least, the community wouldn't be met with loads of bugs. And even if say F1 2016 and 2018 have flaws that were never fixed to this day, Codemasters improved for the next game. But with a strict publisher like EA, all this creativity that I adored Codemasters for is just... gone. Just gone. And especially that is what makes F1 23 so boring to play. You can't see the love that Codemasters used to put in their games, the games are no longer unique... It's all just gone, and this is what's peeving me the most. The legit only good Codemasters racing game since 2021 in my book was GRID Legends, A CODEMASTERS PRODUCTION as the intro of the game clearly states, and I'm honestly thinking about going back to this beautiful game again. 🙂
I don't know what you think about it, but unless a new major patch comes out, F1 23 is dead to me.

Then let me tell you something.
If you're so certain about this whole publisher/developer relationship, how do you explain the huge downfall ever since EA bought Codemasters out? Best example is Call of Duty, with Activision being the publisher, giving orders to all development teams working on the games, and don't tell me you're not aware about that.
Yeah, I know. But when there's something wrong with the game, especially when it's F1, it's VERY EASY to blame EA, as this never happened back when Codemasters used to be both developer and publisher, which was the case up until 2020.
If @ScarDuck14 played F1 2011 and/or before, then you're right. My first Codemasters F1 game was 2012, and after that, I skipped to 2015. And then, I skipped 2016 and 2018.
Fault Types on Standard explicitly says, and I quote: "Mechanical failures are disabled." Then how do you explain the engine failure I wasn't supposed to get? Or are you telling me that I'm playing F1 Championship Edition in 2023?
I'm sorry, but F1 23 is not fun for me right now. Really, I would have much more fun playing the older games from 2020 and before, I'm not kidding. If I still had it, I would even go back to F1 2012, not gonna lie.
Yeah, I know. But imagine EA never bought Codemasters. How much better could F1 2021 have been?

@ScarDuck14 Like I said, Codemasters easily could have used F1 2020 as the base and just arrange the cars, drivers etc. to match the current season, maybe rewrite a couple lines of code or add a few lines, but in the condition this code you mentioned is now, the downfall is inevitable.

@LuckyNico92 They can’t just write a couple of bits of code. Why? Because they have fall into the trap off being criticised for not offering anything knew. So they swing for the fences by making huge changes which I grant you is the problem.

I’m firmly in the camp where I’d like to see improvements to the core features year on year. Even if they are just minor. But that’s not how it works. They look to add a big new feature every year and that screws up the code and creates the bugs. We’ve had My Team added, then Breaking point and then world etc etc.
