Re: Wheel doesn’t work

When I go into a race or any mode, I cannot use my wheel (Logitech G923) when I input any steering or pedal nothing happens. The only thing I can do is up shift and downshift

If you connect to a Windows 10/11 (current public builds) PC you can run GHub which might update the wheel and help with any issues.

Try different USB ports on the XBox and do a cold restart of the console (shutdown/off at mains)

Ensure your XBox is running a current version of system software and is not opted into Insider / Beta programs.

Perform any housekeeping (storage or database / game library rebuild)

@SteveJackson the issue is unrelated to drivers or firmware. The workaround is to disconnect and reconnect the wheel's USB with the game running. However, it is a workaround, the wheel will work until we shut down the game and launch it again.

You should always update the firmware of a wheel when troubleshooting.

Consoles still require wheels to have updates.

Thus it is a simple elimination.

Unplugging the wheel or changing USB is about detection. Try hard restarting the console, turning off the snooze mode and plugging the wheel when in game.

Tell me how many retries it takes if you follow that procedure.

@SteveJackson of course it is a simple elimination but you are missing the point. This wheel doesn't have a firmware update since before F1 22 and is perfectly detected in that game and every other game on XBox. There were two games (not the F1 franchise) that had a similar issue on this console with this wheel. None was related to the wheel.

Remember these threads are read by others. If people aren't aware they have to do something, they often don't.

On consoles there is no update mechanism. People can buy "new" old stock that ships with outdated firmware.

Therefore, I stand by my advice. Just because you are aware of the update situation don't assume everyone else is. I wish there was an update mechanism for consoles that didn't involve PC connection, but AFAIK, there isn't. No-one is starting a debate about that.

But if people are aware, try, succeed then we are all on the same page. Because with a workaround or a solution, it may not work unless there are prerequisites in place.

A thought about the update situation for console peripherals. When I read the requirements for the G923 wheel, I see no statment of a requirment to buy a PC in order to be able to play the games on console. It does state compatibility with XBOX/PC, but no mentioning of PC as a requirement to play on XBOX. It was not possible to get the Logitech app working on my Mac. My interest in buying a PC just to get the wheel working on a single console game is low.

Despite this, the advise to upgrade is sound. If I knew someone with a PC I would ask for help. So if anyone with problems who has access to a PC, do give it a go. Personally, I'll have to wait for a fix to the game.

I agree it should be stated in the wheel documentation that connection to a PC for future compatibility with other peripherals or games is required.

The console app guardians won't approve the kind of software that PC users are familiar with. There's even an assumption that PC users are competent, but it isn't necessarily always the case.
