Suggestion for F1 23 and Questions about F1 24

Hi guys,

as the title implies, I have a few suggestions regarding F1 23 that EA SPORTS could do before F1 24 comes out, and I have some questions about F1 24 itself, which is why I didn't put this in Game Suggestions.

So first, let's get started with the things that F1 23 needs before F1 24 comes out.

  • Nyck de Vries needs to return to the game. Since the 2024 season saw no driver transfers, having Daniel Ricciardo in F1 23 is kinda unnecessary, as this makes F1 24 look like a copy-paste of the driver roster with just a different menu. Like, every other F1 game had at least one driver transfer, and if Nyck de Vries doesn't come back to F1 23, then this breaks the streak of F1 games with at least one driver transfer, which every single Codemasters and EA SPORTS F1 game had. Also, as I stated in a different post, not bringing him back breaks the realism, as he drove the first race in Bahrain. And what I suggested all this time, which in my opinion is the best option, bring Daniel Ricciardo in as a free agent in Career Mode so other teams like say AlphaTauri can hire him.
  • The second thing that I would love to see is some more content for customization in the Podium Pass. Since the Series 6 pass will most likely be the final one, EA SPORTS can simply put tons and tons of customization options in there so that new and returning players can go for these goodies even if they play F1 24.
  • Another thing that would be neat is if all customization options that players collected in F1 23 carry over to F1 24 and vice versa with new stuff in the new game.
  • And finally, all remaining bugs that players find need to be eradicated, and then we can safely say that F1 23 is one of the best F1 games out there.

Now, about my questions regarding F1 24, they are about Career Mode.

  • There supposedly is an all new Driver Career. So does that mean that My Team will be completely scrapped, or is My Team still there with zero changes at all?
  • What is the R&D going to be like? Do we finally get the R&D tree back, is the system being reworked or what is it going to be like?
  • Can we change the track order from Season 2 onward? This is a feature that fans have been wanting since F1 2021 with no response or success at all. So can we finally get this feature in the game? And don't say you can't because of licensing reasons. This is a GAME, and if you can make your own calendar in GP Mode, why can't this apply to Career Mode as well? Hm?
  • Is there going to be a feature that retired drivers can still join your team? It's another feature I would love to see in My Team, because we all know that Lewis Hamilton is usually one of the first to retire, and you know me, if you had Lewis in your team, you had everyone in your team, basically.
  • And finally, what will the handling be like? I would like to know as I had lots of problems with F1 2021, which basically drove like a Need for Speed clone where the cars tend to drift into almost every corner.

If ALL these things are being considered by EA SPORTS, then I can see a better future for F1 23, as well as an even brighter future for F1 24.

Good day,

Nico

  • Well first of all I was surprised CM released patch 1.2 as I assumed we had reached the end of F1 23's life cycle. Now with the announcement of F1 24 and it being less than 3 months away none the less, I'd be really shocked if there were further updates to 23 other than the final podium pass. That said for the sake of discussion let's dive in.

    1. NDV is not coming back. In 15 years Codies have never added a replaced driver back in the game. You can't go back to F1?? and race as Rio Harayanto. You can't start off F1 2019 with Gasly in the Red Bull. You speak of some streak of F1 games with at least one driver transfer, but what does that matter? Are streaks not meant to be broken? Hamilton had a streak of winning at least one race every season of his career until 2022. Also, when Williams finally let Toto (Wolff, not Headphones) talk them into dropping my man Logan in favor of Mick are you going to make 10,000 topics about how Sargeant should still be in the game?

    2. Yes, I think this has been well discussed by the community that the podium passes have been getting weaker each year with before hitting a complete rock bottom this year as there's been hardly any customization items and mostly F1 world stuff that most people have little interest in.

    3. I was only glancing through it so I could be mistaken, but I believe the F1 24 infographic stated customization items from 23 would carry forward into 24 and beyond. backwards compatibility was not mentioned though.

    4. Yes obviously we would all like the bugs to be ironed out, not going to happen for 23 as I'm pretty sure the sun has set and resources have been devoted to 24 so let's just hope those resources get put to good use between now and May 28th.

    5. For pretty much all of your questions regarding F1 24 the answer is we don't know yet. All we were given was a 30ish second clip that confirmed the game existed, would be released in late May, would be releasing on PC, old gen, and new gen consoles, and that they would give us more information in April. Anything else is mostly wild and rampant speculation created from the hopes and dreams of the player base so take it with a grain of salt until we hear more in April.

@TheRagebeard So yes, this basically means that I can safely say that F1 23 is the second worst F1 game ever (only beating F1 2021). EA SPORTS relentlessly broke the realism by deleting Nyck de Vries out of existence, they refuse to bring new content for the final Podium Pass, the game itself is merely a hollow shell...

And about what you said about Mick Schumacher at Williams... I heard that Mick joined WEC alongside Arthur Leclerc and a few other F2 drivers from last year. And trust me, I watched F2, so I know the deal.

Yeah, I'm gonna give EA SPORTS one last try with F1 24, and this is their LAST chance. But if F1 24 is another failure, then I won't play another F1 racing game until a different developer takes the F1 license. Codemasters did everything right until 2020, brought F1 games to their peak, and now with EA SPORTS, we're here...

You’re right, I was thinking Mick was still a Merc reserve, but I do remember hearing him getting a seat in WEC. That being said, WECis only like 8 events, one of which was this weekend I believe so I’m not sure if there’s any conflicts other than the usual Lemans/ Canada. I’d also be willing to wager all of my EA forum XP points that there’s a clause in that contract that says  he can leave at any time if a full time F1 seat opens up.

As far as I know Mick continues to be Merc's reserve driver for 2024, sharing his role with Frederik Vesti.

I'll probably keep on NOT recommending a purchase for this year's game unless it is for someone with a significant step gap in the franchise, e.g. someone who last played F1 21 and would be interest in getting back to it. Even so, I'll hardly recommend getting F1 24 at full price.

The franchise has too much to rectify and improve before deserving a day 1 buy from me again.

I'll be pleased if Max is heavily featured in the marketing material and box cover though. He's on the top of his form and it is safe to assume he'll be considered one of the legends of the sport. There's no other driver currently in the grid more deserving of the media spotlight for F1 24.

A game trying to capture the pinnacle of motorsports in a box should have the one driver surmounting the summit of the category in the cover art.

@mariohomoh Can't say I blame you. I'm an idiot who's bought every game CM F1 dating back to 2010 on day one or early access since that was a thing. I don't know if it's because I just love F1 or if it' just because I'm always hopeful this will be the year, but at least for now I'm holding off pre-ordering until we get more information on the supposed career mode re-work in April.

If it's largely just the same mechanics with just a "reskinned" UI to make things look new like they did in 21 then I'll probably give it a pass or at least wait for a big discount. But I'm hopeful there will be some actual meaningful change that will give me something to get excited about.

Also, changing the subject a bit, but I thought of a reason for some overall optimism regarding the Dev's ability to make improvements to the franchise in general. For the first time 2019, there are no new circuits being added to the F1 calendar, yes China's returning but the data's still been there. I'd imagine building tracks from the ground up takes up significant resources that can now be repurposed to squashing bugs, improving games modes etc. You also don't have to worry about jamming all of that extra coding and assets into your existing files and hoping it all meshes together without creating new bugs.

Once again maybe I'm just being an optimist, but it is an interesting footnote.
