Sure, but in a quick race with damage off and otherwise the exact same circumstances, this didn't happen. I stayed consistently around 3-4 seconds ahead of the AI until the end of the race whereas with damage on I finished in p3 around 9 seconds behind 1st place and I was not able to match the AI pace at all for the rest of the race. I know the cars in career mode are a bit different, but I'm not sure they're quite that different. The career mode car felt like it was damaged as it was sliding around a lot especially in high speed corners and the rear kicked out more than usual. For both races (damage on and off) I used the exact same setup, started from pole, and drove a Mercedes. I will start a new career tomorrow and drive the same car, same upgrades, etc. but with damage off to see for sure. The aforementioned differences between career and quickplay could be affecting the results quite a bit.
- ScarDuck143 years agoLegend@ironobject60 Also if you was unaware. Tyre grip drops off a fair bit once they are just 20% worn. Tyres last longer this year but with reduced grip after the initial drop off at 20%. It caught me out at during the beta. Thought it was a bug. But was told by the lead handling dev it was by design. A result of direct feedback from F1 teams.

I tested it again with a brand new career at the same track and everything. The only things that were possibly different were the starting order behind p5 (otherwise was the same) and the fact that damage is now off. Everything else, setup, track, difficulty, assists, etc. were exactly the same, even upgrades. Like the race with damage on, I came into the pits 4 seconds ahead of p2. However, this time around I still lapped the same or slightly quicker than the AI for the rest of the race, similar to the quick race I did yesterday. Instead of finishing behind p1 by 8 seconds like I did with damage on (no indication of damage in MFD or from engineer), I finished 8 seconds AHEAD of p2. Depending on how you look at it that's a 16 second pace difference and when pitting on lap 8 of an 18 lap race, that's a 1.6 second pace difference per lap (roughly). Also, the car felt so much better in the second stint without damage on than it did with sim damage. Everything here points toward damage except the MFD and engineer. There was also a similar post to mine made last year for F1 22 with the exact same issue. All of this indicates problems with damage showing up/ being reported, at least underbody damage.
