F1 24 Handling thoughts. - PS5.
Firstly, there are good points and I want to note these:
Tyre wear model - really enjoy this element.
Tyre temps - difficult on the formation lap however in the race and practice it's good to tweak and setup. These are much better than last year.
Handling on Fanatac DD Pro with force feedback is great.
Issues:
Urgently is the overall feel of handling. I get this is not a sim but F1 23 is superior. You can turn in with something around 90° of steering wheel input (I run 360° to 400°) you get a small bit of bite. Then some small understeer. Then huge gripping up. This is a very unnatural way to drive any car. There are multiple videos out there of Monaco time trial showing this. In a race I get this will add stupid tyre wear, but it's madness in time trial how greatly this affects players. Wheel players can exploit it. But it ruins the feel. You have to invite the car to turn in however it is similar to Fernando Alonso in his Renault and how he would induce understeer to drive the car. You do not however see on boards of drivers doing that in qualifying for instance. You can drive it smoothly and in a realistic manner; however this is an exploit of the handling on timetrial. If you add such an unnatural steering angle there should be a punishment with understeer
The front end turn in is very pointy where it feels like I am driving the Dodge Tomahawk on GT7. I know I could higher wheel rotation, but this turn in does need to be softer and has been commented on by others on YouTube for instance. I like my wheel to match the onscreen in cockpit view, but I am unable to do this like I was on F1 23.
It reacts like a house fly and everything is on the front end. The rear of the car is massively unstable. I wouldn't mind this if I was setting the car up to do this, with lower rear and knowing I have to manage oversteer. However, the traction is crazy, zero traction control and can just plant it. Even using front 50 and 0 rear won't spin the car out with some effort to hold it but it can still be quick.
There are many comments about it not being super enjoyable. However, I think it EA has comments back on how it was tested I would love to hear these. Is it designed with having a higher front wing than rear, the reverse to last year? But the front end grip definitely needs looking into with the gripping of tyres in timetrial.
I hope this helps and if I can expand on anything further I would be happy to give detail.
