@NuvolarixHmm.. i hate to be this person but im not very optimistic about the career mode changes..
The most promising thing seems to be the changes to the contract system..
Driver ratings are just some weird way of leveling your recognition by using a metric of how you fare in the races - looks like - also still no race pace for ratings it seems🙄
Recognition is just the new acclaim which is now supposed to be vital for everything you want to do, so perform well and everything will go well in time..
Especially those new perks just look like a new presentation of old, the same old bonuses you get in a slightly different way but basically - play the game and you will unlock them in time unless you perform horribly wrong..
Specialists seem very low depth to me, like its really just a different cover of the same old bonuses just like the "simultaneous upgrades perk" its the upgrade time reduced and possible the upgrade costs reduced? Cant currently imagine them making the PU components actually cost money as they didnt say a single word about the cost cap so money wont play a role..
Rivalries? Yeah no, very loud noises for another "here you got some acclaim" unless there is far more to it then is known yet, nothing deep, nothing special besides tracking the progress between 2 drivers and getting a "recognition" reward for it.. meh
Not gonna mention accolades😂
And last but well last.. The mid race objectives.. Burn some fuel.. Oh dear🙄 so your target can be burning fuel/ruining your engine by overrevving.. I hope the other objectives are better..
I know i sound horribly pessimistic, its just that a rework of career mode had so much potential, there were so many good suggestions, many worked out ideas from all around and yet to me it feels like a new cover for the same old basics and mechanics.. except for maybe contracts but we will see how much depth these things actually have and how much the gameplay differs from the old mechanics

The part of the team mate doing his own upgrades could also spice things up early when you got lower recognition than him but the rest? Cost cap, proper regulation change system, development restrictions like IRL, cut out those artificial boosts like 60% faster upgrades when the team likes you errr... Make those "secret upgrades" part of the contract negotiations so you get the upgrades first or something but no team would risk losing a spot in the constructors championship just because one car didnt get a good upgrade at all..
Anyway i do see however with the basis of the new contract system the opportunity to build on it for future titles, give it more depth, expand on it, the longer you take those secret meetings the better your contract can get with more intricate bonuses but even higher risk to get caught and possibly lose it all in the end due to asking too much? There are so many ways to use such a system, global recognition could be influenced by how loyal you are, changing teams a lot breaking multi year contracts after the first year? Teams will approach you much more carefully, stuff like that!
But the R&D will still require a brake upgrade to reduce your chassis weight😂 - Meza9942 years agoSeasoned Ace@Nuvolarix Nah you are all fine, its just me expecting too much haha, there is no reason especially after 3 years of GP mode that you could not have a lot of fun with F1 24s career mode! :D

They've wasted their "all-new career mode..." bullet with what boils down to a new coat of paint and a conservative new mechanic.
I believe the R&D upgrades will render you a broken car on Season 3 onwards, again - just as it's been the case for the past how many titles now? Four?
I did like the buffed up icons roster though. Senna, Schumacher, Hunt, Hakkinen etc. But I'm not reassured it won't be more of the same messy unbalanced experience though.
I don't like shelling out 60-70 bucks a year for the evergreen promise of a "basis for a good title down the road".

@mariohomoh Call me Naive but the new R&D scenario's such as "High Inflation", "Chip Shortage", "Minor Upgrades Only", "Balancing Out the Field" would seem to make it much harder to max out and break the car by season 3. Chip Shortage in particular seems rough as it limits you to 1 upgrade per month, so probably 10 for a season. Presuming regulation resets are still a thing you could lose a good chunk of your R&D.
The video never showed what effect "Balancing out the Field" has, but I assume it acts as some sort of soft reset with the intention of rebalancing and extending career saves. But like I said maybe I'm just being optimistically naive.

@TheRagebeard by "broken car" we mean a car that has a worse handling than before. After a certain point, the car becomes a pain to drive. That's been one of the staples of both single player modes, as our resident single player expert @ScarDuck14 can attest to.
That's a fundamental design flaw.
Those features you mention would address the issue of not having a level playing field after a few seasons, or the AI being unable to keep pace with your R&D output. They just indirectly address that flaw - and would do so just by postponing it. Unless the game constantly resets you back to an unbroken state, but then we'd be bordering on FIFA "now your De Bruyne crosses like nanny" levels of scripting.
The R&D tree is unbalanced at its core, and the Deep Dive did not instill any confidence in me that the issue has been finally taken care of.

@mariohomoh Yes, although I probably don't play as much as duck, I primarily play career mode so I'm aware of the "season 3" issue if you will. And while I would agree it is a fundamental design flaw I think your being a bit negative and looking at this glass half empty style. Maybe the issue remains unfixed but surely postponing it to season 5 ,6, or 7 is preferable to season 3?

@TheRagebeardWell, we are both discussing it over a 5min clip on Youtube, aren't we? You say I'm being negative, then I'll call you on your offer and indeed say you're being naive that after 4 years or so of full priced $60-70 titles their featured "chip shortage" and "high inflation" is going to do enough to redress their fundamentally broken R&D system 😉
And as I've said, postponing is indirectly addressing it so obviously it is better than doing nothing at all. But, stone me for daring to say it if you will, after so many years I'm expecting more from a "all new career mode"?
Sorry for being a downer. We're both extrapolating on a 5min clip and I am doing so on the negative pole of the spectrum. But those are my reasons for not getting excited, and I believe them to be reasonable 🫶

@TheRagebeardit’s not just a season 3 thing. As Career still is fundamentally the same with new bits added to it. This I’m sorry to say has potential to cause issues on issues.
I like my glass half full. But if nothing has been done to reworking and fully testing to upgrades. Added with more changes to handling physics. There will be a point where a upgrade with turn the car into 💩To many times I’ve said “Nah it’ll be fine”

@mariohomoh You don't have to apologize for being a downer, your certainly entitled to hold whatever beliefs you choose. Me I choose the path of the optimist and maybe that makes me naive, but that also gives me something to look forward to and be excited about for the next month.
I believe stoning was outlawed a long time ago so I'm not going to do that, but I am going to and ask your to explain in detail what you were expecting from an "All New Career Mode"?

@ScarDuck14 *sigh* I know it's has to do with the upgrades, I just said season 3 because that's when it tends to hit for the average player.
Your second paragraph could go either way, because we don't know how the upgrades will interact with the new handling physics. They could cause the car to "break" sooner or they could cause it to "break" later, we won't know until we give it a go.

I want to kudo your post for congratulating Cpayne but I can't because the rest of it is meh

Retired champions? Completely irrelevant descriptor.
As for a more fitting one, one that also includes @Meza994 who pointed out the same potential failings of the "all new" career mode, I'll be roundabouty and cryptic leaving you with just a hint: ask @ScarDuck14 the number of hours he logged in his least played F1 game.

@mariohomoh I know his least played game was F1 23 and he only put roughly 300 hours into it.
Also, perhaps you overlooked it, but I asked you to explain in detail what you were expecting from an all-new career mode. Since this one obviously doesn't meet your expectations, I'd like to know what you would consider acceptable.

Do you think all these changes are also available for coop mode? I mean they mentioned at in the end but for me it was not clear, if all these features are also available for coop.
And are the things implemented in My team mode? I guess yes. And my team coop?
You notice, Coop mode is MY mode :D

I do believe these changes are for coop and would be interesting. Imagine the scenes if you both have secret meetings for the same team.

@TheRagebeard I didn't overlook it. Just couldn't shake the impression that it is disappointingly disingenuous? Asking what one expects from a "all-new..." marketing bullet point just after we've all been presented with what seems to be the very same fundamentally flawed experience but with a fresh coat of paint?
Even more so when there's a second plain answer to that, given the direction the discussion has taken. I expect an experience that does not orbit around a broken perk system when I'm told there's an "all new" career mode coming.
A few more low hanging fruits. Consistent AI throughout the weekend. Proper customization tooling. A career progression that isn't a directionless sandbox. Functional driver academies. Regulation changes beyond a silly reset of perks, with a fitting long term R&D to account for new chassis. Meaningful FP programmes impacting performance - a "quali pace" program that isn't broken for once would be nice. Race strategy beyond the selection of tyres. A functional race engineer. I want to build my way up to understanding the car operational window for the weekend.
The secret meetings and contracts look like a fine little addition, but it's hard to look forward to it and not expect it to be unbalanced just like facility bonuses have been.

I stepped over your question for the reasons above. Sounded a tad too disingenuous. If that wasn't your intention, I apologize.

Don't take it as I being flippant or goading. I'm saying this as I see it and I mean no quarrel , honestly: people like me, these "old retired champions", and other long time members of Codies' community are not here for likes, "XP" or to rain on anyone's parade. Heh, we're most definitely not here to antagonize you. We're here because we care for F1 and for these games 🫶

@TheRagebeardFrom 2019. Average is north of 600 hours per game.F1 23 drags that down because it’s bad.
Since 2020 every game as got worse. So likely 24 will follow that trend

@mariohomoh I’ve never doubted your love for F1 or these games. What annoys me is your constant negativity and cynicism.
The reason I asked my question was because you’re not the one programming the game. It’s easy to sit back and say they should add this or that or make it like this, but you don’t know what type of time or budget constraints the devs were under, maybe this was the best they could do? If you think you can do better feel free to apply for a job. I’m sure they would love to have someone with your analytical skills and attention to detail on the team.
To be clear, I’m not trying to defend EA, I’m defending the Dev’s who get put in a crappy situation of having to put out annual games without receiving proper support or funding.
I get why [Edit - EA_Barry], I just don’t feel like being dragged down with you.
