I understand those who have PSVR2 think it’s awesome and I’m sure it is. But you also need to take into account other factors. Most people are not bothered about VR. Especially at the price. Huge amount of PS5 owners don’t even play racing games. I’m also willing to bet majority or people that play GT7 don’t use or even consider using PSVR2. Then factor in, as I’ve said before only 2 AAA games support it. Both are Sony games. If they didn’t support it the only other games that do are average AA games at best. Sony have themselves reported they are disappointed with sales of PSVR2 and are now working on adapting PSVR2 to work on PC. Because PC doesn’t just use VR for gaming. It’s has endless amounts of Applications it’s used for.
Then EA like all AAA publishers and developers don’t set trends. They follow them. They wait for other developers to come up with a successful new IP. Then copy it.
Until there are many many more GOOD games that support PSVR2. Which people want. You won’t see any of the big developers adding support on its games. Especially as they can add it to any of their games after they release.
Lastly… If EA (All AAA developers) thought for a second there was profit in adding PSVR2 support to any of their current or upcoming games. They would add it. The only reason GT7 and Horizon are supported are because they are Sony games.
VR has failed to gain mainstream traction since rje 90s. Most people don’t want to or like the idea off sitting at home for extended periods with a headset on. Funny but humans actually like reality and feel uncomfortable, anxious and vulnerable when closed off from it.
@ScarDuck14 Capcom added PSVR2 support for two Resdent Evil games after they were released. Though it ain’t an official term I’d call them triple A games. They are not exclusive game either and the VR support was free, so I see no reason why other publishers couldn’t do the same if they wanted.
Racing games are also somewhat of a niche. Sure, most people play those games with a controller. But those who are really into them have wheels and setups that can cost way more than the PSVR2. Just a wheelbase alone can be triple that (and be PS compatible). So while the majority play them with a controller there’s added value in the game if they support steering wheels too, even though only a minority of gamers own said wheels.
A lot of sim racers already prefer VR because even though it has the drawbacks you mentioned the benefits of depth perception, ability to focus on apexes and being able to check your sides and mirrors by turning your head are worth it. The “isolation” of wearing a headset isn’t also that big of a deal as you’re already in away confined in your virtual car and the field of view of a headset simulates that perfectly.
F1 as a sport presents itself as the pinnacle of motorsport and a leader of innovation and technology, so it’s more than strange that an exclusively licensed game of the sport seems to go out of its way not to embrace neither innovation or technology.

- @jkkj_PS5 Probably because F1 and Codemasters together have always had a clear direction for the games and that is to be a good representation of the sport that is easily accessible to all gamers thus increasing the likelihood hood off casual F1 fans and gamers buying the game. But continue to promote the F1 brand. F1 are not so much interested in how realistic the game is or if it’s the pinnacle of racing games, EA will have run the numbers. If it were profitable to add PSVR2 support. You can be sure it would be added.
Sorry didn’t know Resident Evil had it added. Which is odd as I’m on my PS5 every day for last 3 years almost and always browse the store and must have missed them- @ScarDuck14 Resident Evil 4 remake got the PSVR2 support about 9 months after the game originally got released and RE 8/Village got it at the same time as the PSVR2 itself got released. Both are free DLC if you already got the game and makes the whole game playable on VR, not just certain parts of it (like Project Wingman for example that just added some missions for VR).
I get that EA’s F1 games are trying to target casual gamers and fans of the sport, not just sim racing enthusiasts. But they are a target audience as well and the game is also the official game of the F1 eSports league where every actual F1 team also has sim racing drivers competing for them, so they are definitely trying to be credible as well. The current F1 champion Max Verstappen is also an “EA Sports ambassador” and they have drivers like Charles Leclerc as well posting videos and in-game lap times as challenges within the game so I’m really baffled why they have seemingly no interest making the game actually better with an addition like PSVR2 support even if the current player base for it is relatively small. Especially since VR is supported on the PC.
There’s also the additional worrying fact that since EA & Codemaster now have the exclusive rights to WRC as well they are now somewhat of an official monopoly in both formula and rallying games so if there’s no VR support planned for one then there probably isn’t for the other either. So thanks to that it looks like VR for racing games seems to be going nowhere for the foreseeable future on consoles. I for one don’t see anything good about that, regardless if I own a VR headset or not.
Console players already have to pay extra to be able to play online. If Sony brings PSVR2 for the PC and PC is already the only option for VR racing game (apart from GT7) that’s just means PC is starting to be a better and better option for even casual gamers than consoles.
I’m sure EA has the numbers but I would guess that console gamers are huge part of their customer base and as console games tend to cost more as well in addition to bringing subscribers to their platforms (like EA Play that’s included in Xbox Game Pass) I don’t see the lacking support for console as anything else but short sighted.
