COMMENTS
The new handling model feels good, and once gotten used to is a pleasure to drive. Hopefully this doesn’t get changed again as it’s really frustrating having to update all your setups, have time trial wiped, having to learn another new handling model, etc.
AI is excellent. Aside from their inability to deploy on hotlaps, the way they make mistakes, battle the player and each other is very good.
Career mode is fun! It would be nice if secret meetings weren’t always with terrible teams when you’re in a low team yourself.
5 laps in ranked is good, and hopefully this isn’t changed because 25% is quite extensive, or if it was brought in as an option between the two, lobbies sizes would probably halve, as half are in 5 lappers and the others in 25%.
There are too many returning bugs. Ghosting radio, incorrect weather forecast, incorrect bumps on tracks, and plenty others. The small attention to detail would go a long way.
Leagues on Racenet still… why? Does anyone play leagues through Racenet?
MyTeam could have at least been touched up in a few ways, but it’s near-on identical.
Challenge career is a nice idea, however wasn’t executed perfectly. The points system is flawed as you have to take pole and start last to make the overtakes.
There’s still a lot of room for improvement…
IMPROVEMENTS
You should be able to raise your target rating in the contract reviews, rather than just lower them.
AI need to be a bit faster in qualifying and a bit slower in the race on 110 difficulty.
A larger multiplayer career is now overdue.
Older features are still not optimised - red flags should be in all sessions, not just races, you should be able to drive back to the pits, while safety car still doesn’t let you unlap, and it doesn’t go through the pitlane, and AI just despawn when retired rather than removed by marshals or cranes etc.
Reporting people still does nothing, so this is a waste of time.
AI need to be treated same as the player. They can freely drive off track to overtake you and not get warnings, penalties or illegal overtakes.
The objectives are either too easy or just terrible for your race. I.e. the lap time objectives are about 2-3 seconds too slow on 110 difficulty, while the cooling engine or overtake a car ahead both force you to lift off and lose stacks of time and force you to battle and lose time respectively.
Two player career is non-functional if the two players are not close on pace. Either one is winning by miles or the other is at the back by 2laps by the end or DNFed. Perhaps some way of handicapping the better driver is needed.
To boost player engagement in the later months, EA should bring game modes like elimination, tag, hide’n’seek, survive driving backwards, which could be fun for more casual players and a big selling point for content creators.
ISSUES
Aside from the issues already mentioned…
The AI are ridiculous in wet weather conditions, particularly at high speed and at tyre changeover points.
Error 2631071469:S is straight up wrong, internet connection can be perfectly fine and the game even lets you connect to online lobbies directly after saying you have the issue, showing that there is no issue.
There’s no variation in the calendar season to season, as we still cannot change the order.
There are no new tracks which is a bit boring, albeit out of EA’s control. However this was the perfect opportunity to bring in some DLC tracks in this absence.
There’s just not quite enough to bring players coming back to the game every week, unless they have a very passionate ongoing career mode. Ranked, challenge career, etc. will get boring quickly.
Various more can be found in the bug reports, and elsewhere on this forum.
Overall F1 24 is a solid game, definitely a step forward from F1 23. There are some big changes which make the game worth buying… depending on what you’re looking for.
Final rating: 7.5/10
