F1 25 Suggestion - Free choice of driver number

Hi guys, 

now, you may already know that Isack Hadjar took the number 6, which is the number that I mostly run in My Team since F1 23. And it saddens me to see my favorite number get stolen AGAIN. Latifi already took it for three years and now Hadjar will have it for I don't know how long. 

There is a way to combat this, but knowing EA SPORTS, I'm pretty sure that they won't do it because they put realism and microtransactions before community and suggestions. But I still want to bring it up to maybe hope that it gets added. 

If anyone is familiar with the NASCAR games, then you'll probably remember that NASCAR Heat 5 allowed you to take ANY number you want. And the best part about it is that even if a driver already has the number you chose, you're still allowed to use it with your custom driver and even play Career mode with it. 

I think you know where this is going. Yes, I want to have this free number selection system inside F1 25. However, there need to be limitations: 

  1. The number 1 should be unavailable, as it's reserved to the reigning world champion, which makes sense.
  2. NASCAR Heat 5 allows you to choose the number 0. This number was a thing in the past when a driver became champion and retired from F1 right after, in which the replacement would take the 0. However, since nobody runs the 0, and since I don't know if it's even allowed or not nowadays, it should be unavailable. 
  3. Some NASCAR games like Ignition 21 allow you to choose numbers like 01, 02, 03 and so on. Basically, these numbers are supposed to tell two drivers apart that use the same number. I'll leave it to EA SPORTS if they implement these, but I personally wouldn't, as these kinds of numbers were never a thing in F1. 

I know, it once again sounds like maximum unnecessary complaining, but it would personalize the experience and allow the player to pick the number they desire. And it's not like it's impossible. In F1 World, you can see lots and lots of players with the same number, and even in F1 23, it was briefly possible when Daniel Ricciardo was patched into the game, even if it was unintentional. 

I know that numbers are usually no big deal in F1 games, but for me as someone who creates fanfiction scenarios, it's not cool that I can't use the number I desire just because a random driver that probably won't be any better than Latifi has it. 

Like I said, I hope that EA SPORTS listen to a suggestion for a minor feature addition for once, but I have the feeling that the probability tends towards zero. We'll just have to see what happens. 

Let's just hope for the best.

    Yeah it would be cool to have an option to enable/disable this rule in the main menu, so that players can either choose to stay authentic and have it first come first served with the real world drivers, or override this and be free to choose their number

    While it would be a good idea i think it will come down to the realism factor that it won’t get implemented. If they did allow us to pick our own number though they would have to not allow 17

    Plus each driver has their own design for their number,   If a player took a drivers number the real driver would get a generic number and design.  Not going to happen.  I dare say got nothing to do with EA or Codemasters.  This will be down to FOM

    Good point. I wouldn't have chosen the 17 anyway, obviously because of Jules Bianchi. It's good that the 21 is still open, so I'll certainly do a Driver Career as myself again. 

    As for My Team, we'll have to see. If it won't get implemented, I still have a fallback number, which is 9 (because it's basically a vertically mirrored 6), but I would still like to have the free choice of number. And hey, as a compromise, if you do end up picking a number of a real driver, I suggest giving said driver a random number. This worked with the Icon drivers in F1 22 and beyond, so there's no reason to not have it with the others too. 

    Like I said though, 0, 1 and 17 should be completely inaccessible for the reasons above.

    9 is also forbidden because i use it 😂
    But in all seriousness it would be good if we could. There were a few years i wanted to use 3 if it wasn’t for Ricciardo

    If that's the case, then how come that 

    1. The 27 wasn't available in F1 22 even though Nico Hulkenberg was just an Icon driver, meaning you needed the Champions Edition to use them? 
    2. The 21 is accessible in F1 23 even though there's a chance that players have an old career save with Nyck de Vries in it, who has the 21? 
    3. Almost every Drivatar (AI of real players in F1 World) has the same number? If you really think that, then every single driver in F1 World needs different numbers.
    4. You can take the numbers of Icon drivers? If you think that, then they must be inaccessible as well. 

     

    See what I mean? These four cases are the very reason why I want the free choice of numbers, and if you happen to play Career mode with the number of a real driver, said driver should be assigned to a different number. It's not that difficult to implement, and I've experimented with that in the past, so it's clearly not impossible. 

    Also, it's a video game, and even Frontier allows us to mix up the team lineups and change the race calendar, something we have been screaming at EA SPORTS to implement it, which they never did. I only suggested the free choice of numbers because it's a super minor addition that's not hard to implement.

    I just pick the naughty number because the 3 I'd like to use are taken
