Progress did not carry over from trial to full version

For whatever reason the website locks up whenever I try to post a bug report, so now I'm posting it here instead.

I have played the EA Play trial for F1 2024 on the EA App and decided to buy the game on Steam, but despite EA Play saying that my progress will carry over once I buy the game I'm now stuck with no progress at all because the game thinks I just started playing for the first time. I checked in my documents folder and the savegame from the trial is still there, it's just not seeing it I guess? How can I fix this?

  • @zephyerdk  I believe progress carrying over from the trial only applies if you purchase the game on the EA App. That's their way of "encouraging" you to not buy it on steam because they would prefer to avoid having to give them a cut of the sale.

EA Play is available on Steam as well though and the exact same info about progress carrying over can be found there as well. I assume they both use the same save folder and version, so I don't understand why this should be a problem on PC. If it mattered which store I bought it from then I feel like this should have been mentioned on both storefronts where they have EA Play. What it does mention is that you cannot use your EA Play on console if you have EA Play on PC without subscribing again and vice versa, but there's nothing about save games being held hostage. If this is them "encouraging" me to buy the game on the EA App then I'll just request a refund and they can consider me encouraged to not buy at all. :P

@zephyerdk  Yes, the standard version of EA Play is available through steam however the Pro version is not. For F1 24 the Pro version of EA play is required for full access to the game as the regular version only has access to the 5 hour trial.

Thats all fine print & business politics though so I understand your frustration and don't blame you for wanting to refund. If you don't already know how to request a refund on steam I've provided a link to Steam's refund page below.

I don't have EA Play Pro and never planned to get it on either store - I bought the game because I like it. :D

Not sure I like it enough to redo 5 hours of progress and setting up though.

Now I'm also kind of wondering if I want to risk losing progress in other games by checking out EA Play trials in the future.

Thanks, I do genuinely appreciate your understanding  and I know how to request the refund, but would like to use it as a last resort if my progress cannot be saved.

Does Codemasters or EA have a support email (because the chat bot gives terrible answers) or does anyone here know where the steam saves are stored? Because then I figure I must be able to just drag and drop the ones from the EA App save location. I just can't find wherever steam saves the game to.

  • After talking to EA support in chat I have come to the conclusion that either EA Play is a scam that uses false advertising or the person I chatted with tried to deceive me. I've attached screenshots. This is insane.

  • They also suggested updating my graphicscard driver (thanks, it's updated), which I doubt has anything to do with savegames, but that's just me of course. I'd really appreciate it if someone has a support email address for Codemasters, because they'll probably give straight answers at least. :D

I had the EA Play via Steam and the free weekend and I've just purchased the standard game and had no issues with progress.

I don't seem to be getting the 5000 XP for Podium Pass or maybe I missed it.

@SteveJackson  TC had EA Play via the EA App and then purchased the full game via steam which is why their data didn't transfer.

Always go Steam. At least if it's broken there, it's CM. EA store version is a kludge and has never been a good option. I remember the launch and being astounded that PC needed Crossplay to play with PC (wasn't possible for some weeks). Haven't ever with EPIC launcher but EA decided to ditch Origin for EA App at about the same time F1 transferred into those storefronts too.

    Hey @zephyerdk

Although EA Play is in Steam and EA app, the progress doesn't transfer between platforms. EA Play is just a subscription and it doesn't save any progress at all. The progress would be saved on your EA app files, but because you purchased then the game on Steam (a different platform), the progress doesn't transfer.
