I think it's fair to say EA just doesn't understand what the appeal of an F1 game is. This series is competing with the likes of Forza, Gran Turismo, Iracing, and Assetto Corsa, among others.
And it doesn't have the track list of those games, no where near the variety of cars available in other games, other games are better simulators, other games give way more freedom in the types of racing available.
But the one thing the F1 series has over them, and that is immersion. None of those games can make me feel like an F1 driver like this series used to be able too.
I could load up Assetto Corsa, download the VRC Formula Alpha mod, download skin packs, and play though the 24 season.
And while it might be a more realistic driving experience, there will be specific F1 quirks missing. Differences in car performance, performance upgrades, power unit penalties. That's what sells these games, and what keeps bringing people back. Not a tacked on life service mode.
That's why the lack of customisation, terrible inconsistent AI, and Horrific handling model. Are such big complaints, they break the immersion. The one thing this game series is sells itself on.
And that is something that EA and CM can't figure out, then they don't deserve this license. Simple as that.
