Rubber banding is the biggest issue

So between the OP nature of the ERS/DRS and the straight line speed of the AI, I think I have figured out the biggest reason why this is an open wheeled NASCAR game instead of an F1 game. There is some serious rubber banding going on.
I am leading the race and the AI is all over me through the corners. The AI gets ahead of me and now I am running into the back of them through the very same corners if I take them at the same speed. The AI still has ungodly acceleration off the corners, but their actual speed through the corners is suddenly significantly slower once they are ahead of me.

  • @tn132  Yes, I would agree. Totally ruins to single player experience as you can easily win at most tracks as long as you qualify in the top 10 or so. Just stick with the lead pack using DRS to work your way up to second, then wait until the last lap and jump the guy in the lead.

only real exceptions are tracks like Miami and Suzuka where the AI seem to be able to abuse whatever it is giving them the straight line speed boost the most.

I’m hoping there will be a meaty patch next week for the start of season 2 that will fix a lot of things… but I’ve also been playing the franchise for long enough to know better than to get my hopes up to high lol.

  • @tn132All racing games unfortunately have some kind off rubber banding…. Previous F1 games it was subtle but last year or so it’s been cranked up. F1 games though just shouldn’t have it. But problem I imagine is without it. Could lead to races exactly like IRL where we could spend multiple races not seeing another car…

Ive always found it get worse the better your doing.  For instance if you’re in a bottom ranked car but racing for a podium position.    Or you consistently finish in a top ten position in said bottom ranked car.

  • That's not rubber banding.

The AI is just terrible. The dev just gave them a mario kart speed boost instead of fixing their cornering speed.
