My actual takeaway before this season ends.
Carlos Sainz proved to be a much more consistent driver, regardless of the car he drives, than a seven-time world champion like Lewis Hamilton.
While Hamilton never really found the right feeling with his Ferrari (given that driving a Ferrari this year is slightly better than driving a tractor, but whatever 🤣), Sainz actually managed to score two podiums this year driving a Williams!
Imo, Sainz proved, once more, that Ferrari made a terrible mistake letting him go.
Change my mind!
I've said for a few years, i believe that unfortunately age has caught up with Lewis. Plus his performances tend to take a hit when his confidence has been knocked. This season it's been battered. I understand moving to a Ferrari was his dream, as it's probably all race drivers. But no one expected that dream to become such a shocking nightmare. My own personal opinion was that Ferrari made a mistake. But when they signed Lewis apparently their share price rocketed. Which is probably what they was expecting and could be the driving factor to why they did. Sainz is unlikely in o ever win a WDC even in a competitive non Ferraring Ferrari. But Ferrari has always favoured a lead driver with a supporting 2nd driver. Can't think of any driver on the grid better suited , as Carlos and not only is he a smooth operator, he's got a few peak years left in him.
