Jack Doohan & Franco Colapinto

Franco Colapinto has now completed 5 races for Alpine, it was rumoured he was only on a 5 race contract, but with no rumours floating around that he's getting replaced for Silverstone, it seems pretty clear that he's on the grid for the rest of the season. So are we going to get Franco added to Alpine in Career Mode and other modes such as Grand Prix? I know Sargeant wasn't swapped for Colapinto last year, and in fact Ricciardo wasn't swapped for Lawson, but back on F1 23 De Vries was swapped out for Ricciardo after the dutchman got dropped, so surely we should see Franco added to the game now right?

Honestly my main reason for asking this is because Jack uses the number 7 and that's been my number for the past few F1 games and I want it back.

  • God I hope not.   Franco has stank up the grid and he is lucky that Alpine aren't a serious team.

I agree that I expect him to finish the season as their original reasoning of 5 races was with the assumption that he wouldn't be an absolute bag of useless spanners and that they could say he'd justified the seat.   Alas, that hasn't been the case so they'll have to do an announcement saying they're happy with his performances (for god knows what reason) and that he'll be there longer before anyone takes his continued seat to be a given.  I'd expect them to put a post on X saying it's a rolling contract race-by-race and then turn off comments.

Coincidentally Aron is supposedly doing the next 2 FP1 sessions for Sauber in a view to replace Franco after Hungary if Colapinto doesn't pull a miracle out of his jacksie and find some actual ability.   Personally, I think it's an empty threat where they're just warning him "we could do this and replace you if we wanted to" in a hope to motivate him, but it does mean Franco isn't safe and therefore i'd not replace him until the announcement of his continued seat comes out.

If/when they do make him the main driver for Alpine, they'll have to fix his rating.  He's 78 on my at the start of MyTeam season 1. No idea why he's anything more than a 68.

Career mode should be improved by adding reserve drivers, like in real life. Then during the season if a driver has a contract for a few races and does not meet the team's expectations he would be replaced in the game (like in real life in Red Bull or Alpine). And when we have the opportunity to choose a teammate before the season we would have more options to choose from.

  • You could also have pay-drivers.  Where instead of having to pay to have them drive for you, you actually get money for using them.   After all, that's how dross like Colapinto get onto the grid.

And/or engine-affiliates. For example, if you're using a Red Bull affiliated young driver then the engine package for Red Bull costs less. Same principle with the other engines.

Neither of those ideas particularly make the game experience much better but it adds another layer of thinking when starting a save.

  • As far as i know and it has been asked before but from what i remember, there are no plans to make this change. The big issue is that changing them would likely affect all save files so unless they implement it like the performance and driver updates, i don’t see it happening
