AI Cars lagging/jittering around constantly during races

Product: F1 22
PlatformXbox Series X
Summarize your bug AI Cars jittering around excessively
Which area is the bug/glitch in? Career
How often does the bug occur? Frequently (30%+)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? We've been seeing this in co-op career mode, on LAN, but only during races (not practicing and not qualifying). Don't think there's much more relevant information than that. During one particular session, we did have the telemetry UDP option turned on, but turning this off didn't solve the issue, and this option was not present during a different race with similar issues. It seems to only be the 'host' player that's having issues, and it only seems to occur as you get close to the AI cars.
What happens when the bug occurs? The AI cars start to jitter/lag/glitch around seemingly randomly. Mostly (if not completely laterally). It becomes extremely distracting, but also very difficult to overtake or defend from attacking cars, as you don't have any confidence that they are were they seem to be.
What do you expect to see? AI cars behaving normally and not consistently glitching around.

This started happening during our Canada co-op career race weekend the other night. Initially Verstappen was attacking me for second place, and started behaving this way, eventually leading me to stop defending over fear of an incident. Then Sainz started doing the same thing as he got closer. Initially I thought this was a short-term issue that would resolve, but five minutes later, I was continuing to have AI cars behave this way. I finally recorded some footage of it after it ended in a spin at the hairpin. Later I recorded some more footage of the same thing during a safety car, but this also continued throughout the race.

At Britain the following night, the exact same issues occurred, and although it wasn't to the same excessive degree, it was still enough to ruin the experience.

Some stuff to note here:

  1. This looks like lag to me. But it's super excessive amounts of movement from the cars, like the prediction has completely failed (the cars move far too much for anything that could be considered a realistic amount in that time frame).
  2. Both me and my co-op partner are on Xbox Series X, on the same LAN network, in the same room. It's a 1Gb highspeed cable connection in the heart of a major city. I'm using a high end Asus gaming router and everything that can be on wired is wired with CAT 6/7 cables (so basically on phones and a lap top are using wireless). There's no other traffic on the network while we are playing (e.g. no heavy downloading going on; no torrents running; nothing should be doing any heavy updating), and even if there was, there shouldn't be anything affecting it this badly.
  3. This was late at night when local ISP traffic is not typing contented much.
  4. We have completed multiple races together, in similar situations, on this game and other games and never seen this happen during a co-op career or league race between the two of us. And it's happened twice in three races since the 1.07 patch. No other multiplayer games are displaying issues either.
  5. This is NOT happening in any practice sessions or qualifying sessions, only race sessions. At Britain, I spent several laps during FP2 following Magnussen around and saw no such issues. 45 minutes later, during a race, consistent issues occurring again.

  • Further to this, there is a strange curiosity in the lobby at the moment, whereby we are both showing as having a bad connection to each other. I think the default reaction to this would be to just assume that we must, surely, actually have a problem somewhere, which I really don't think is the case.

So while we were sitting in the lobby, with the connection showing as 1 out 4 red bars (#1 in the image provide), I went and ran a query on the router to make sure nothing unexpected was happening (#2 in the image) and no, across the entire network we're using barely anything (500-ish KBs over the one minute or so this was tracking for). Finally, I did an internet speed check (#3 in the image) and you can see that we have nearly a 1Gb of download and upload bandwidth available, with only 3ms ping to the server.

Again, everything is wired here, no complex port forwarding/blocking/firewall shenanigans going on, and all other games are fine, so I can only conclude that something is going on with F1 22 that's causing an issue.

  • We might have found something in regard to this issue: The other night we noticed that my co-op partner had left the 'Enable Telemetry' option turned on from where we were capturing some data late last week. While we haven't actually been capturing anything at all since, the reported issues did start to occur around the last time that we were using the telemetry (which, annoyingly, coincided with the 1.07 patch).

Last night, now having turned that option off, we had our first race all week without a single issue (whereas the best we've had all week has been some minor, re-occurring jittering). I also checked the co-op lobby, and that's showing 3/4 bars consistently for both players now, which is much better (although not perfect).

This really needs more than one race to check it isn't a coincidence (which I'll do over the next week), but it's looking like that could be the cause (or at least having a big impact on things). I wouldn't have thought the telemetry should have this sort of impact, but it's also not out of the realm of unreasonable, especially if it's broadcasting a lot of stuff constantly.

  • I have this issue with my friend when we are playing 2 player, only me and not him which is really annoying. Do you know if the telemetry was the issue in the end? Would be good to know as I would love to see this resolved.

@TigerIFE Either player or both off you may have issue with your connection to eachother. Which results in Ai cars jumping around.

@ScarDuck14 Can I check somehow if my connection is good? Cause there isn't any network info in the game for some reason (ping or what region I am connected to) like every other game...

@TigerIFEI have no idea dude only reason I know it’s likely a convection issue cause I know a couple of people who use 4G to play co-op and results in Ai cars jumping around

problem is because co-op is peer to peer it could simply be because your isp and  your co-op partners isp may miss something that normally wouldn’t matter

@TigerIFE I was just using 4G as an example as it’s not the most consistently stable connection. It demonstrates its most likely a internet Issue rather than a game issue

Almost certainly. Port forwarding or PnP issues when using two consoles attached to the same SOHO router using the same services will almost inevitably run into issues.

So it's likely a LAN side issue manifesting as a WAN side one. Also the game does use or transmit AI car packet information (if only internally) to record gameplay. Telemetry issues exist within the game as well.

Doesn't even need to be a *perfect* storm....just a bit breezy and spotting. 🥳
