Bring Back Loading Screen Difficulty Options Menu

Anyone who played F1 2017 to 2020 will remember the menu you could open in the loading screen before a session loaded, where you could change all manner of settings including the difficulty.

It meant that if you went into a session and you were too fast or too slow, you could exit and reload, open the menu, change your difficulty and then enjoy the session, rather than as it is now, being bound to the difficulty you entered the session with and stuck with a bad experience.

Personally, I'm having so many issues regarding difficulty shifting from session to session, let alone track to track. Was level with my teammate in practice, only to find in qualifying I'm over 1 second faster and somehow in Q3 when I really, really shouldn't be, and it ruins the challenge.

Please bring this menu back. It's a huge quality of life improvement.

  • I too would like to see this, I'm either way too fast or the opposite and cannot find where to make difficulty changes on the fly. It was so much easier when you had the option at the loading screen in prior versions.

  • @s00zsterAlthough atm I'm sticking to my strict difficulty setting rule, I still would like to see this feature from F1 2020 to return.

Having to backup save before every race instead just doing simple tweak ingame is quite annoying.

I have to agree here, not only for AI difficulty but any other option like going from 'Strict' Qualifying to 'Normal' Race or anything like that.

Even not strictly necessary to be in the loading screen, it's enough to reach the goal: if one unawares starts a session with wrong settings nothing can be done to fix it (except a previous backup) while it would be enough if one could exit and re-enter the session not directly "inside" the session (being too late to change the settings) but in the settings screen which is currently between the sessions (since F1 2021).

Hopefully EA/CM will look at it 🙂

  • I agree. I wonder can you change it at the end of the season? Maybe we're stuck with it for the entire 10 seasons. Its a pity to see it removed as it was a helpful feature. I think it was removed to make way for the new adaptive AI feature but it only helps out beginners and newcomers.

@Apophis-STRI didn't realise this was possible, as annoying as it must be to perform. I'm assuming it involves switching off Cloud saving and backup the save folder? I'm using Steam.

@ALittleTiger7 You can change it in the settings menu while you're at HQ or in the motorhome using the laptop, but once you enter the next session, you're stuck with it for that session specifically, which is my issue. You used to be able to exit the session, reload the save and change the difficulty before the session reloads.

@s00zsterWell, I have the habit to always backup my save files, you can do that from the Steam userdata folder (1692250).

Whenever I felt something might needed to be tested multiple times (like doing different driver contracts or controlling the driver market, for examples), I can just pop up the backup save and redo it until I'm satisfy.

The game auto saves whenever you make progress in the Career/My Team calendar, so just make sure you have the file backup before making any decisions.

Cheers its a trap. That sorts my issue.

Is your problem to do with exiting the session and the game saving upon exit which leaves you cant retry the session?

Would turning off the autosave function help in any way? Until you save it manually it will always return you to your last point of save. If so, you can turn off the autosave in the game options. Go to first tab, I think its called home, its the first tab. Select game options. Scroll down to autosave and select off.

I dont know if this helps but thanks for helping me out.

EDIT: I done some testing. When I switch off the autosave, it wont allow me to manually save it, and furthermore it seems to autosave it anyway even with it switced to off.  🤔
