Cars on equal performance not equal ?

I had a heavy discussion with two guys saying that the cars or not the all the same even with equal performance on.

Ther agreed that power and ers are the same.

But they insists on their fact that the cars do not behave the same.

They say for example, that the Ferrari slide way more.

They say it is because the aero of the cars are different of each other. They also say you can clearly see the difference in suspension and wheelbase in the showroom and this affects how the car handles. They say that you need a different setup wether you drive a Ferrari or a Mercedes.

But they can't prove it.

I'm almost 100% sure that the aero and the visual difference in suspension and wheelbase do not at all interfere with the handling or behaviour of the car. I think it is not the visual that defines the handling. I think that all cars are coded the same.

What do you guys think about it ?

Or maybe someone has a proof of it ?

PS: sorry for my bad english

  • I only drive the my team car. So can’t comment on the aero or weight distribution. @Meza994  will be able to answer that.

However.  The feel of the cars handling different could be quite simply down to the Camera view.   As Each teams car especially in Tv pod.  Are all slightly different.

If the FOV for each car is different it will explain a lot off why the car feels different.

If you’re not aware. FOV setting has a huge effect on racing and FPS games.   Don’t ask me to explain it.  Instead search YouTube for pov settings.  Video  Doesn’t have to be specifically about this game.  There are hundreds of good 10 minutes videos by sim racers that explain it. Try this one https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4yYeiAHsdr0

Put this way. Once I was ignorant of FOV settings.  Then I watched a video on it. Reduced my FOV settinbg and went out on track.   I was instantly over a second a lap faster on every track.

@Zztuf So you are correct that all cars under "equal performance" use the same data file that determines the performance.. Aero, Suspension, tyre grip etc.. all the same for each car and indeed the visuals dont matter in 99% of all racing games out there because the visuals could be a literal wall which has certain attribute and if these attribute are 100% downforce and 0 drag then a wall will give you the best performance in the game..

Or again in short - visuals dont matter one bit in the F1 games in terms of car performance!

HOWEVER Esports guys said years ago that even with equal cars enabled there were small differences between the cars, somewhere i heard it was the "background data" so each car feels individual, so some data simulating chassis differences which for whatever reason cant be replicated by Center of Mass means etc.. dont take this as guaranteed, its just what i heard and it makes sense to me as i still feel like there are oversteery/understeery differences between the cars even under "equal performance", to me most notable between Ferrari (oversteery) and RB (understeery).. So if i were to guess id say there is some background chassis COM (center of mass) data which still differs even with equal performance, makes a minor difference though

I seem to remember some discussion about wheelbase differences but cant remember the source.

In F1 2021, I had a setup that was stable at high speed on the equal Red Bull car, but if I loaded it on the equal Mercedes car, it would spin over bumps or elevation changes, so they were not identical.

Youtuber Limitless mentioned it when talking about F1 2021, can't remember which video
