F1® 22 - Barry's Basics - Camera Settings

Hey,

Codemasters forums veterans will remember Barry's Basics - a series where he would share tips and tricks to help you make the most out of the F1 games. He's created this guide on camera settings with what he finds the most useful, and you can read it below!

Camera Settings in F1 22 are vital to the game experience, and there are some great options in-game to tailor your experience. After a lot of trial and error, I think I’ve found something that is both unique and immersive for me. It’s sort of a hybrid between T-Cam and cockpit, and I can’t really race with anything else anymore. Settings are below:

I like to limit camera movement and shake, especially in Race. I want to know what I’m seeing, and the movement, and although this sometimes compromises realism, it's my preferred setting.

Adding the On-screen display and the Virtual Rear View Mirror renders my side mirrors irrelevant and lets me get closer in the cockpit. I race on several different wheels when testing, so the closer I can get, the more involved I feel.

I can see all the track and feel close enough to the action. I also move non-essential elements into spots that are out of the way, as seeing as much of the track is key. There are a few tweaks to camera angle and vertical to find the right balance per car.

I also remove the halo column because with it on I find I keep missing braking points at crucial times. Not running out of pixels; just me running out of talent.

I have two options that I rotate: the first option above is my standard one when racing, especially online, as I like to look down the car a little so I can see braking points clearer and plan moves should I need to make them. This would involve tweaking the ‘Offset – Horizontal’ setting to give the change in feeling in the car. This new generation of cars are lower than before and, from onboards and driver interviews in real-life, visibility is less than last year. I’d try these and turn the halo on if you wanted something a little more realistic.

Show us your camera angles you use and test mine out to see if you like it.  As always, please post your own, any further tweaks I could make, and add pictures

  • For those of you that use Tv pod or centered Tv offset.  If you want to lap faster and more consistently you will need to reduce Field of View.    Every elite E-Sport driver does the same.

    I don’t have the meta as a lot depends on how big your screen is and how far your eyes are from it.

    But  if your eyes are 1-1.5  metres from screen  reduce field off view  by 10 then fine tune to suit you.

    if your eyes are around 2 metres from screen then reduce by 15

    Also increasing camera height and decreasing angle will give better view down the track.

    My Tv pod settings are -10 Fov.  +15 height and -15 angle.

    Camera shake 0

  • I use following settings for cockpit view:

    * My Team

    * DC for Haas:

    I sit about a 1m away from 23inch screen, using T150 steering wheel.

    I like to see rear wing in side mirrors, to check on DRS. I don't use that travesty called "rear view mirror" 😉 I am also trying to get away from proximity arrows, just for sheer experience.
