Fuel Consumption

Has anyone noticed that their fuel consumption has gone through the roof since the latest patches? I’m currently in season 3 of a career mode which I started when the game first came out. For ...

CONFIRMATION / SOLUTION:
The problem is on some (or all?!..) 'old' career saves (pre patch 1.10).
I just started a new MyTeam career (which I'm not gonna continue - it was only for this test) and did the Race Strategy Program at Bahrain - keep in mind the car is NOT developed at all (season 1, my car is one of the worst on the grid and I did NOT upgraded ANY of the Fuel Efficiency, or other Power Train - or ANY other car parts - at all) and still I got both the fuel calculation and the projected laps RIGHT - let me show it with pics:
I did only the race Strategy Program - all 5 laps - and then just accelerated time to end the session (Free Practice 1) and I got a Race Fuel Load of 49.52kg (enough for 29 laps, keeping a strong pace, using DRS/ERS as much as possible through the laps).
Then I moved straight to the Race session (skipping the other FP sessions and Quali as well) and on the pre-race screen, I got this from the game: 51.5 kg of fuel load - probably that little extra for safety + the Formation Lap (even if you skip it) - but keep an eye on the Projected Laps of 30.6, which makes sense now (FL + 29 laps + little extra safety fuel = 30.6):
And then, just for confirmation, I decided to mess with the fuel load a bit and inserted the same 49.52 (in this case, 49.5) kg that I got from the Race Strat Prog. results and.. voilà! I got fuel for 29.4 laps (29 + little safety extra):
CONCLUSIONS:
- The actual Fuel Calculation is OK.
- The problem is/was only on the Projected Laps for each fuel load.
- The problem seem to only appear on some (or maybe all) career (Driver/MyTeam/Co-op) saves pre-patch 1.10
- The problem is NOT present on new career saves (after patch1.10)
IF YOU STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM:
Just trust the values for Average Fuel Burn and Race Fuel Load after you complete all 5 laps in the Race Strategy Program, add a little 'safety extra' Kg (0.5 to 1.0 Kg, more or less) and you should be fine to complete the race without any worries about the fuel - no matter how developed or not your car/power train/fuel efficiency components are.

I think I have some interesting info/data to share, guys..

I've just had a race at Baku last friday - MyTeam, Season 5, Round 6 (for me, on a 16 races calendar) and the car is fully developed - and then I decided to take a look at the info shown by the game after you complete the Race Strategy Program and here's what I got:

So, the numbers/values highlighted in GREEN and BLUE are the ones that REALLY matter - these are the values PROPERLY calculated by the game according to what the PLAYER did during the program - if you use too much DRS/ERS it will be calculated based on that and if you don't use too much DRS/ERS, it will be calculated on that as welll - meaning the calculations will be made according to your own 'driving style' - if you burn more fuel during the program, the numbers will be higher/bigger.. and if you burn less fuel, the numbers will be lower/smaller - you can drive in ANY ways you want and you can TRUST these numbers.

So, Baku for me is a 26 laps race (50% of real life distance) and then all I need to do is multiply that 1.68 by 26 and I'll get a value of 43.68, which should be the exact amount of fuel I need for the race - BUT..

As you guys can see, the game gives you a little extra - probably just for safety - of 43.75, but that value should also be ok and trustable for you to finish the race just fine - these calculations are exactly, literally and precisely the amount of fuel you're gonna need for 26 laps IF you keep the EXACT same pace/driving style as you did in the Race Strategy Program during the race - obviously, if you drive the program on a certain 'style' and drive the race on a different style, the calculations won't match, BUT.. the most important thing is: we should ALWAYS push a bit more during the PRACTICE PROGRAM, so in the race you'd be safe - but if you do the opposite and keep a stronger/more aggressive pace during the race, then you'll be screwed, of course..

Still, at the beginning of the race, the game was giving me an even higher value for the fuel load - remember, I needed 43.75, but the game suggested me 45.7 (which in my case was enough fuel for 31.9 laps - THAT'S where the calculations are wrong - that's 5.9 extra laps of fuel, although the actual fuel load of 45.7 should give me only about 2 or 3 laps of extra fuel)..

Anyway.. long story short:

- The issue I'm having is with the actual number of extra laps the game is showing me - these values are NOT trustable for me - BUT..

- The numbers highlighted in GREEN and BLUE are 100% trustable (at least to me) and if I manually calculate the total race fuel using the GREEN value, or if I simply trust the BLUE value as my total fuel load for the race, I should be fine.

The problem is still the fact that the GAME should make all of those calculations PROPERLY and give me the EXACT amount of fuel before the race starts, BUT... it's just not doing it and it keeps giving me those completely weird values based on god only knows what, because they completely ignore and don't match the numbers the game gives me at the end of the Race Strategy Program..

LOL - I'm not a kid anymore either, so.. don't worry, that's kind of a problem to me as well (remembering numbers from a few mins ago - LOL)

But jah.. as I said, it's a shame we have to 'manually' do that since the game is giving us values that just don't match our own 'realities', BUT.. for what I could see, those values in GREEN and BLUE are trustable and I'll do more tests in the future races just to double check that, but for now they seem to work just fine!
I suggest you to just write them down on a piece of paper or something and then always add a very tiny extra for safety if you don't feel 100% comfortable to putting the exact value..
Let me know if it works for you and/or if you find any other interesting info about this crazy and annoying issue - cheers, my friend!

Exactly, right?
This doesn't make any sense, but THAT'S the actual problem I'm having (and I assume @ScarDuck14 as well) - I mean, it's not exactly the fuel calculation that's wrong, but the number of LAPS I can take with said fuel load - which also screws up the total amount of fuel I should carry, because with that crazy wrong value, I can't know for sure the exact (safe) amount I need to use for the race - BUT.. it seems now I found that 'workaround' and all I need to do is keep an eye on those numbers circled in green and blue and I need to use THEM instead of anything else the game is telling me..
And yes, I can push as much as I can (or go super slow if I want) during the Race Strategy Program, because those numbers in green and blue will represent exactly what I did (and how I drove the car) during those 5 laps and then all I have to do is keep about the same pace/driving style during the race and I should be fine - the only thing we should NEVER do is to go slower on the program and then push harder in the race (careful about that, gentlemen!) - in this case, we would run out of fuel (or have to save - lift & coast) - the opposite is ok though and actually recommended: you can push super hard during the program (use as much DRS/ERS as you want/can) and then in the race it's ok if you push a little less - you'll finish the race with some fuel left in your tank just fine and no need to save, or do anything else, even without any Safety Cars, etc..
Once again, it's still weird that it was working just fine before patch 1.10 & 1.11 and then it got 'broken', so I'm still pretty sure something in the patches glitched that particular aspect of the game for a few players - and it's also not platform related, since you also play on Steam yourself - it's probably just another F1 22 mystery... - lol

Same problem with fuel calibration on the PS4 in My Team.
Yesterday at Jeddah:
Race Strategy Program -- 1.87 kg / lap, 93.5 kg for a full race distant of 50 laps
Pre-race Strategy Screen -- Fuel Load 93.5 kg fuel, "55 laps"
I fueled up with 94 kg for the race and my HUD shows that I'm plus 5.3 laps of fuel at the start of the race. By the end of the race I was just under + 2 laps of fuel (there was a safety car and the usual traffic at Jeddah, so I burned quite a bit less than 1.87 kg per lap). So the glitch is that the amount of fuel used per lap isn't calibrated according to the results of the Race Strategy program as it should be.
This is not a big problem if you pay attention to how much fuel you're burning in practice and on the Race Strategy program and fuel up accordingly....
...but it is a real problem if you'd like to start a bit under-fueled as you can' t tell where you are on fuel until it's too late (unless you do a lot of math during the race, which is no fun).

Exactly!
But I'm glad this seems to be another confirmation that by checking the numbers after the Race Strat. Prog. we can still put the right amount of fuel for the race - although it's a shame the game is not doing it properly for us and then we can't try a few 'variations' for the fuel strategy properly.
And it also confirms (even more) it's not platform related either, but it's still weird that it affects people 'randomly', regardless of their platform..

Definitely seems something in the race strategy that doesn't calculate the correct amount of fuel used per lap.
I've now done the Miami race, once again decided to forego doing the race strategy in practice. This time I started with +1.6. By the end of the race, I'd only just gone below 1.0.
I'm fairly confident in saying that whenever I have done the race strategy prog, I've ended up burning fuel at a MUCH faster rate per lap than when I don't do it, even taking into account short shifts and lift and coast.
Should add I'm on PS5.

Yes, it seems that either doing the Race Strategy Program or not, the game is NOT being able to calculate the exact fuel amount (and the correct projected number of laps) for the race, on that pre-race screen, where we select the strategy, etc..

So, once again, the only trustable values I found so far, are the ones circled in green and blue, on this post:

In this case, it IS important to actually do the Race Strat. Prog. so the game/prog will give you those values after you complete all 5 laps - it's also very important that you do it keeping a very similar (or stronger) pace than the pace you'd be keeping during the actual race, just for safety and more precise calculations.

If the game is actually showing you trustable and precise values on the pre-race screen, then you don't have the 'glitch' and you don't need to worry - cheers!

Guys, do you think this "glitch" may be related to particular Powertrain upgrades, or because you haven't installed it yet?
There are few Fuel Efficiency and Energy Recovery upgrades (e.g. flow, injectors, stators, etc.) which may have an impact on fuel consumption.
I know, it makes no sense it would differ between RS programme and actual race, especially when you drive more sensitively during the race than you drove in programme. But you never know.

@P4st3l1ak I was thinking that may have been the issue as I always leave upgrading my powertrain until I’ve maxed chassis and aero. But it’s made no difference as I upgraded the last half dozen or so powertrain upgrades

I've installed every upgrade on the power train that the player can physically do themselves, I have only one supplier upgrade left to come which from memory I don't believe relates directly to fuel. I'd have to check on that. So in my case at least it can't be because I haven't installed the upgrades. Doesn't necessarily mean the upgrades are working as they're supposed to, I guess.

Not saying you're wrong in any way, shape or form. But does the calculations not add on a lap to the grid, formation lap and whatever sample is needed by the FIA at the end of a race.
I've always went off the race strat program.

It's not related to any of the Fuel Efficiency or Powertrain upgrades, because the problem started to happen to me after my car was already fully upgraded.
The calculations were ok and the projected number of laps for each amount of fuel were corrected until Patch 1.10 hit, so.. whatever caused it, it's certainly patch related.
What is weird is why it affects only a few people in different platforms.
But once again, the fuel calculation itself is ok - especially after doing the Race Strategy Program and keeping an eye on the values shown on the little result screen for "Average Fuel Burn" and "Race Fuel Load" - these two values are 100% trustable (glitch or no glitch) and the player can use these to know exactly how much total fuel they should carry for the race - the actual glitch is the weird number shown for the projected laps with each fuel load at the pre-race strategy screen.

No, mate, that's not the extra fuel for the formation lap - for 2 main reasons:
- I don't do the formation lap - but even if I did..
- That's waaaaaay too much extra fuel for just 1 lap that's taken on a lower speed..
As I said on the paragraph at the top, the actual fuel calculation itself is 'ok' and the actual problem is only with the projected laps shown for said fuel during the pre-race strategy screen - there is already a 'solution' to what's happening and a way to put the correct fuel load before the race, even if the game shows you weird values for the projected laps on the pre-race screen - just check the link I put above as well.

@SexyBrigadeiro Awesome work young man. Just raced Bahrain 50%. Started with+0.9 and finished with +0.74. That said it could have been fixed in the latest patch…🤣😂😂😂 I crack myself up😇

But that said.. I did completely deleted my save game data before downloading the new patch. Then started a new my team career and gotta say game ran like a dream. Even the ai behaved. Even on last lap they were all under half second faster than their previous lap.

I haven't tested the latest patch yet (actually I've literally just downloaded it, but won't be able to play the game today, for I need to leave to work soon - yes, real life sucks sometimes - lol), but I hope it also feels good for my continuing career - my next (MyTeam) race is round 8 (Silverstone for me) in Season 5 and I really didn't want to start a whole new career now, so.. I hope that whatever fixes they made actually work on 'old saves' and not only on fresh new careers..
But I'm happy to have more and more confirmation that just trusting on those 'green & blue numbers' ("Average Fuel Burn" and "Race Fuel Load") do the trick and help us to carry the exact fuel load we need for each race - cheers & happy racing!

Oh, I am not going to do that for 1.12, I am past Monaco in current season and that is always my nightmare 😉
Fuel efficiency is not mentioned in patch list by it may hide under "various minor fixes", as usual.
