- ScarDuck143 years agoLegend@Aeghnor No need., you are obviously an enlightened fellow.,And told me exactly what I was looking for., used to think 42,was the way until I got 55 👍
Funny enough the reason I posted was because playing with the FOV when I tried -4 it felt right. But Jarno says -7 marcel is -10 and limited man is -13. So knew someone here would know what I was looking for.
Thanks fella - peter75pc3 years agoNew Adventurer
Hi
can anyone point me to this FOV calculator/tool please?
cheers, P
- Aeghnor3 years agoNew Scout@ScarDuck14 Problem with those eSports aliens is that they use tv pod view, so any proper FOV calculations go out the window. You might, as well, use feeling for what works. If you use cockpit view then you can use those calculators.

@peter75pchttps://www.fov-calculator.com/en/ or https://dinex86.github.io/FOV-Calculator/Thank you! Now to figure out what all means 🤪
- Aeghnor3 years agoNew Scout@peter75pc It's not complicated. Find out your screen size in inches (should be on a box or manufacturer website) and measure distance from screen to your eyes in your racing position. Input those numbers into calculator and that's it. You need to double the number AFTER period for F1 as they use previous values, and those changed in F1 2020, i think.
- ScarDuck143 years agoLegend@Aeghnor I honestly didn’t know pov mattered., it was only because I stumbled on a video on YouTube about it. So tried it out on 2021 and couldn’t believe on some tracks I was lapping 2 seconds faster.
- Aeghnor3 years agoNew Scout@ScarDuck14 It matters a lot. It gives correct perspective and sense of speed. Much easier to hit an apex and brake/turn references. Everything on track is where it should be.

I got -.65 for my setup. So double that? to be -1.3 ?
So my best settings would be somewhere between -1 and -2 for the FOV? - Aeghnor3 years agoNew Scout@Hansenhaus If it's -0.65 then it would be -13 in game.

@AeghnorAnd the calculator to covert cm to inches?
Why distance in cm then tv in inches? - allemands3113 years agoSeasoned Adventurer@BadMayh3m Yea, that does seem odd but just Google "cm to feet" and you'll get the calculator.
- ScarDuck143 years agoLegend@BadMayh3m Because America is only country that still exclusively uses imperial measurements. The rest use the metric. But us British obviously being awesome at everything use both without a thought. Sometimes we will say about a inch other times it’s about 2cm or 20mil.

@BadMayh3mCannot help you with that as i use correct measuring system. 😃

I ended up whit -1 on the calculator. So Not a whole lot of difference. But will give it a go next time I have a change to play.

@AeghnorWow! That is just about zoomed in all the way. Are you sure?

Just tried a quick test with it at -12. As expected it totally messed up my depth perception of corners and distance. My driving was horrible. I could not see apexes either so I had to increase the look to apex to 10 to compensate. It will take time to get use to it. The weird part is the car feels like it is in slow motion with the FOV at -12.
- Aeghnor3 years agoNew Scout@Hansenhaus If you got -0.65 then yes. -13 would be correct value. You can always play with horizontal offset a bit.
- Aeghnor3 years agoNew Scout@Hansenhaus It's not slow motion. Correct FOV setting will do that. It's interesting as i don't use look to apex at all. I found it distracting and messing up my perception.
- ajobling19833 years agoRising Ace@Hansenhaus Yes thats why it’s best to use such a negative figure & why the e-sports guys do it. Makes the game feel slower so you can hit your marks better. Turning off motion blur also helps.
- Aeghnor3 years agoNew Scout@ajobling1983 eSports guys use T-cam view so FOV calculations mean nothing in that case. It's just using feeling. Correct FOV matters in cockpit view.
- ajobling19833 years agoRising Ace@Aeghnor Aye, i’m not talking about cockpit cam.
- Aeghnor3 years agoNew Scout@peter75pc Just go -20 as that will be correct FOV for you.
