Re: F1 22 PC VR jittering, freezing screens and crashing

I have been pretty satisfied with the visual performance considering I have a mid level gaming PC but only after spending countless hours of tweaking. I have probably spent more laps in "benchmark" mode than racing.

The constant EGO Dump crashes are more of an issue for me. I had to re-run a race 3 times before I could move on!

One thing I discovered using the Open XR app for WMR along with Opencomposite and Open XR toolkit (from mbucchia) on a reverb G2 was to lower the resolution in the WMR Open XR app to 50%. This still gives me good resolution in game. I am using the CAS upscaling and foveated rendering.

EA really needs to step up and address these issues! Pretty sad we have to use 3rd party apps to get barely acceptable VR performance.

My PC specs are:

Asus ROG Strix Z590 MB

i9-10900 cpu

RTX 3060ti

32 gigs of ddr 3600 ram

    Hello everyone,

i had also similar problems. But i managed to lower them significantly.

    My specs:

    AMD Ryzen 7 5700G

    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti

    32 GB RAM

    Meta Quest 2

    Maybe Solution:

    Update your GPU drivers.

Update your USB drivers and use cable instead of Air link.

    Disable USB power management.

Use same resolution in your Meta Quest 2 headset, in Steam VR and ingame.

Open Oculus Debug Tool and set Encode Resolution Width to 3500. Set Encode Bitrate (Mbps) to 400.

Set your ingame settings based on the screenshots.

With this settings I got stable 89 fps. There were little bit lower fps while driving near pit boxes and also at the start of the race (44 fps). There were no freezing or jittering with head movement. I think it would be possible to increase some of the graphics settings ingame. Disabling dynamic resolution and Stencil Mesh helped a lot.

Being able to play multiplayer is very important to me.

So.... FSR2 appears completely broken in VR.

At least on the Quest 2 it's a blurry mess with ghosting and streaking everywhere. Are tethered users (G2 for example) getting the same thing?

    VR is still broken @1.17

EA you broke this, you need have to fix this.  It was working up to and including 1.14  Figure it out and get fixed, it been broken for months.

EA please reply to confirm you understand the meaning of this message.

This head movement issue has been there since forever so I read, and EA can't seem to solve it ... I think I'll go for a refund ... doesn't seem they will fix it any time soon. ☹️((

@dronord551993 having done all that , still there is delayed movement when moving my head... has nothin todo with performance headroom missing (I have plenty) , it's another issue.(which affects not all headsets, it seems ppl w Steam headset are not affected ? Meta Quest 2 and HP Reverb G2 are for sure affected as far as I read).
  • I think you may have missed my post as I am using SteamVR. My post is as per below, however I have since upgraded my Desktop PC GPU to an RTX 3090 ROG Strix OC Edition 24G.

"I too am having this issue. It is happening on both my Desktop PC (I9-9900KF, 32GB RAM, ASUS RTX 2070 Super ROG Strix) and my Alienware laptop (I7-9750H, 32GB RAM) with external graphics amp which has an ASUS RTX 3090 Turbo 24G OC. I have three different VR headsets and all of them have the same issue on both of my systems. I have the Vive Pro, Vive Pro 2 & Pimax 5K Super. I can get smooth frame rates, even playing on Ultra settings on my RTX 3090, however the head movement stutter makes the game unplayable. This is a real shame as I really don't want to play through the game in 2D (which works fine). I have several other racing titles which do not have this issue, namely, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Assetto Corsa, Automobilista 2, Project Cars,1,2 & 3, Rfactor 2, Dirt Rally 1 & 2, Kartkraft & Raceroom experience.

I have tried all the fixes suggested by people on the net, so I logged a case with EA. Hoping this issue gets fixed as I'm hanging to play in VR!"
