I'm having a feeling that the AI being OP is may be a bit of an illusion.
Hear me out.
I've been running strictly 100AI for my 16 races 100% distance MyTeam season.
Since the time I've gotten used to the physic of this year, I've been noticing how AI seems to be extremely weak in qualiy, often I was able to put my first season 3rd worst MyTeam car up to Q3 in a genuine way (no rewind), but then only to get swallowed up during the race.
I at first thought: "man, how ridiculously fast the AI are around me." but then, I notice something.
After being overtaken by all the really fast cars, the rest of the cars behind me are unable to do the same as the ones ahead. I'm starting to hold my ground against ALL the teams that are really close to me in terms of their R&D progression (Aston, AlphaTauri, McLaren, and of course Williams), sometimes I even managed to pull away from the closest one behind me as long as they're out of DRS range.
It was at this moment I realized it was the quali result that might have given me the wrong impression that I should be fighting against the now much stronger Haas, Alfa or Alpine.
Last night I was at Silverstone (one of my worst tracks since F1 2020) and had the exact same experience, qualified 3rd (yes, with the 3rd worst car, beating Max even). But in the race, the cars around me (Alpine, Merc, Haas) just caught me and ran away as if I'm standing still, only until I saw Vettel in his Aston behind me (with most of the similar performance cars behind him), he could not close the 2.5 sec gap through the entire race and I even managed to create a 3 sec gap until the final lap where he picked up his pace to cut about a sec (we had very similar strategy, one stop, M to H).
Most of my second stint I've very little ERS in my disposal (like only roughly 15 - 30% left through the entire duration), so I basically had to be very preservative, which, literally half the time I ran without using any Overtake for multiple laps straight to save energy. Yet, Vettel was unable to catch me.
My teammate Sato was about 0.2 - 0.5 sec slower than me per lap (I kept checking) and finished like 35 sec behind, his best lap was an entire sec slower than my best.
One more thing, I think everyone should try running less fuel (like a lap short of fuel at least), the calculation in practice program seem to be a bit off most of the time and gave you way too much fuel so you get bogged down heavily especially at the start.
