@Ultrasonic_77Did you change by any chance the session time? Maybe from the default to Official? In TT the time was on the default (midday) both days I think. I certainly didn't consciously change it. Now I think back I did actually notice I didn't get the music when doing the Weekly Event qualifying late last night too so I wondered if the car choice might make a difference. I'd started off today in the player car but went through a few different teams. I got the music in the Mercedes and Ferrari but then not in the Aston Martin or Williams. Going back to the Merc and I still got no music though so I'm guessing it's just random.
I'm assuming this is the same for everyone?

@Ultrasonic_77Audio options. Bottom couple off optionsI wasn't changing the audio options between the music being there or not though. I'm assuming the On Board Mix isn't randomly assigned when opening TT or swapping cars within it. Right now I have TT open have have the music I like so I'm not going to change anything to test. It is in the 'Cinematic' On Board Mix mode. The next time I find the music has gone I'll check to see if it's still the same.
In case anyone's not sure what I mean, if I stop by the DRS sign just after turn 10 there is music coming from the grandstand on the left. Spin the car round to face the wrong way and the sound switches to the right of the car it's definitely localised to the grandstand. You don't have to stop to hear it but just making it clear, and your can hear it close to some other grandstands too.
I don't believe this makes any difference but I'm using cockpit view.

Hey @Ultrasonic_77,
We do indeed play music in session, however there's some criteria you need to hit.
- Music will only play in Time Trial - this will not work in modes like practice, quali, race
- Music will only play if set to "Soundtrack", "Theme" will result in no music, even in time trial
- Music will only play providing you haven't turned the fader to "0"
- Music is 3D and is tied to tannoy placement so if you're not near a tannoy emitter you wont hear it
The music should be heard on all circuits, not just Zandvoort.
What is a " tannoy placement" ?

@F1GUZMAN I Where the speakers are placed and facing around the circuit

I really appreciate your reply 🙂. I think I'm experiencing something not covered by your answer which I'll come on to but first I want to say I think this 3D aspect to the audio is really good! This was definitely what I'd noticed when I was referring to the sound being localised to the grandstands, which I hadn't expected but gives a MUCH better experience for me than simply having an option of a music track playing over gameplay (which frankly I wouldn't use).
Where what I've experienced differs from your expectations is that by changing none of the parameters you mentioned I can sometimes get the music and sometimes not. I just tried capturing some gameplay to demonstrate this but frustratingly the audio that ends up on YouTube doesn't match what I hear (possibly an automatic feature to prevent copyright issues). What I did was start TT in Zandvoort in a Mercedes, and the music was obvious right from the start of the flying lap. I braked to a standstill and then switched cars to a Red Bull. This reloads TT back to the garage. Starting a new flying lap and this time there is no music audible. This matches the sort of behaviour I was seeing when I started this thread, although then I was doing multiple laps rather than just this quick check.
Oh, and I mentioned Zandvoort as that's where I noticed this, and actually given the atmosphere at the real GP there I wondered if it may have been particularly put in for this track. I have heard music in TT driving round Monza as well now.

Where this sort of outdoor speaker is placed round the tracks:

(Tannoy is a speaker manufacturer whose name became synonymous with this sort of speaker, a bit like saying hoover instead of vacuum cleaner.)
Thanks Ultrasonic...much appreciate the reply and answer. I learn something new everyday!
Thanks again!

Can this PLEASE be added to the race, qualifying and practice sessions as well?
Having music being played in the grandstands adds so much to the weekend atmosphere and makes the crowds feel more alive!
How come it is only available in time trial and when watching replays?

@CapPeanut You're not the first person to request this and it is something we've talked about. To answer your question, the reason why this is only in time trial and replays is because we've always treated practice, quali and race as being "broadcast" first and formost so we aim to replicate the mix you hear on TV as cloesly as possible and you rarely hear music during a race apart from in parc ferme.
Arguably, now that we've got distinct user controlled mixes (cinematic, broadcast and driver) my points above are less valid than they used to be - which is why we'll consider changing this in the future.

@issueskid13 That is very reasonable - but as you mentioned, it would be great if you could add the grandstand music just for the cinematic sound mix in a future update. Or perhaps make a separate option in the settings. I would rather not have to wait until next years release for it to be implemented ☹️
While on the topic of music in the game, I would LOVE for the Trophy Ceremony Theme to be played during the podium cutscene right up until the classic champagne celebration music.
This is the theme I'm referring too:
