I really appreciate your reply 🙂. I think I'm experiencing something not covered by your answer which I'll come on to but first I want to say I think this 3D aspect to the audio is really good! This was definitely what I'd noticed when I was referring to the sound being localised to the grandstands, which I hadn't expected but gives a MUCH better experience for me than simply having an option of a music track playing over gameplay (which frankly I wouldn't use).
Where what I've experienced differs from your expectations is that by changing none of the parameters you mentioned I can sometimes get the music and sometimes not. I just tried capturing some gameplay to demonstrate this but frustratingly the audio that ends up on YouTube doesn't match what I hear (possibly an automatic feature to prevent copyright issues). What I did was start TT in Zandvoort in a Mercedes, and the music was obvious right from the start of the flying lap. I braked to a standstill and then switched cars to a Red Bull. This reloads TT back to the garage. Starting a new flying lap and this time there is no music audible. This matches the sort of behaviour I was seeing when I started this thread, although then I was doing multiple laps rather than just this quick check.
Oh, and I mentioned Zandvoort as that's where I noticed this, and actually given the atmosphere at the real GP there I wondered if it may have been particularly put in for this track. I have heard music in TT driving round Monza as well now.
