Re: Super Fast AI Final Lap

Yup, this is a ridiculous game mechanic with the AI.  I'm so tired of seeing it happen.   My driver career mode, season 2 I'm now driving for Red Bull.  25% race distance.  Coming out of the pits after the 2nd stint I'm on mediums, Max is in 2nd also on mediums, and Norris 3rd on mediums.  Norris and I pitted the same lap, Max the lap after me.   With 5-6 to go I'm pulling a 7 second lead over Max and it's growing.  Norris is about 2-2.5 behind Max.   With 3 to go, I'm still running consistent lap times on the timing charts as I was 2-3 laps ago, but Max is suddenly 3 seconds behind, and Norris .5 behind him.  With less than 2 to go coming to the last lap both Max and Norris are all over my rear wing.  How they gain 7 seconds on me in that span is just ridiculous, on the same age tires as me.  Their laptimes on the charts got significantly faster on old tires.  There's no logic to it.  Its stupid rubber banding AI.  But the worst part is....  the gap from Norris in 3rd to Leclerc in 4th had grown to about 15 seconds in that same span.  So the game just helps 2nd and 3rd catch you to make it "fun" while the rest of the field (including the player) continues to run the same lap times?   It's ridiculous to think this is a good idea for AI programming

I’m so happy….😞 last year I raised this issue time and time again but some @Meza994  said I was being a conspiracy theorist..  But I knew it was happening.  And all these post reasure me.  Lots off people who play through entire seasons( meza😜 ) see this also.  This year is another level.  I assume it’s related to the add ai aggressiveness this year.  😀

You're not crazy (well, you might be but that's a different issue all together 😃).  I would have thought people were a bit crazy talking about it in previous years though because I never experienced it before, at least not like this.    The real frustrating part to me though is it doesn't appear to me that the whole field of AI cars experienced this effect, only 1 or 2 cars.  I don't know if it's a glitch with the AI suddenly getting faster to make some sort of adaptive AI to challenge the player, or if it's a glitch in the AI coding itself over shorter race distances that forces them to go faster to create more separation in the field to fall in like with the car performance stats.  Whatever it is it needs to be removed or fixed ASAP.  It's not fun this way and I won't sit back and make excuses for the game or for myself in thinking well the AI manage their ERS better, or manage their tires better, etc. etc.  Not to the point where Max can gain that much time, on medium tires that are 9 or so laps old on a 25% race distance.  Those should be worn and slowing his times down by that point given the scaling to 25% distance; he shouldn't be finding almost an extra second per lap on tires that "old" regardless of fuel load/weight, ERS, or tire management.   It's pure and simply the game cheating you with poor programming to try and make things exciting, but it just takes away from what little realism this game tries to create.

@petro1319 Think your on to something with the scaling.. I did a 100% race at Montreal. And a race which I won. And where I looked at the ai times at the end. The ai had only increased their last lap time by .5 sec at most.

I always find it primarily effects two or three ai cars chasing you. I wonder if bonkers pace comes into effect when cars are within 10seconds or so.

Im pretty much convinced from last year rather than adaptive ai. But a form off rubber banding as an excite mechanic to make last few laps more exciting. Which it doesn’t.

    And thanks 🙏👍

@ScarDuck14I'm almost certain it's not rubber banding, because many times I was able to go quicker than the AI both directly in front or behind me during the final laps if my tires are still okay. They simply just picked up the pace to use up whatever is left, nothing more than that.

The key here is that most players seem to set their difficulty based on their own pushing pace. The thing is, if you have to push like hell only to match the opponents during phases of the race where everyone (including AI) is suppose to be managing the car (like during mid-race where nothing really is happening), then you definitely won't be prepared for when the AI (or even decent human players in online lobbies) is pushing. You should base your settings on your managing pace instead.

You could say it's unrealistic that all AI on the track is pushing on the final lap even if there's no good reason for doing so (or outlap/first lap etc), but you can only blame it's the outcome of a one-dimensional design to mimic different phases of a real race to create some drama.

It's cheap, but definitely not rubber-banding.

@Apophis-STRI think I said and if I didn’t. I said a form off rubber-banding…. Not rubber-banding in the sense off how we know it to be.

I never set ai on push lap. I always set it on a teammates (90+ pace) lap times during fp1 on mediums. I’ve said this hundreds off times. Last year if button( 2nd driver boost) or Norris were my teammate I’d set the difficulty +/-10 for ever +/- second.

I’d always qualify within half second infront or behind teammate and would always finish 50% race within a few seconds off eachother. Providing races didn’t have us getting caught up.

Before I got a decent teammate last seasons I would compare my times to gasly fp1 times on mediums. I’m no speed demon. I lap within 3tenths lap after lap… impossible to do if always pushing

    This isn’t my first time.

your obviously better than us average joes.. can I suggest you look at it from out limited skills

AI final laps we know are fast (as they have always been in the past games), EA staff also explained why (use of ERS etc.).

Just completed today a 100% race in Bahrain, 5 laps to go I was catching Russell lapping 1:32.1 gaining a couple of tenths per lap (with Verstappen the fastest in 1:32.0).

My last but one was the best in 1:31.9 without much ERS to use.

In the last two laps AI were flying, Russell 1:31.7 with H at their 32nd lap, Verstappen 1:31.1 with H at their 41st lap (!), while I was with M at 25th lap.

We know the player needs to be ahead at 3 laps to go, possibly a couple of seconds at least and defend the position. Yeah, I agree it probably doesn't make much sense.

    Regards,

    Nuv

  • In the last lap of the race, the AI drivers always improve their lap time by 0.5 - 0.9 seconds!

@Grizzled63Yes for some bizarre reason they save all their ERS for the final lap in a attempt to make us humans angry when they catch us and  ram into us😀

It’s stupid and we hate it… although last year it was worse.
